Indian Creek CC, FL?
« on: January 15, 2021, 04:51:35 PM »
Just read where Trump's daughter and son-in-law are having a hard time getting accepted to Indian Creek CC on an island in Fla even though they bought an exclusive house on the island. Looked it up on Google and the course looks nice. Anybody here played it or know much about the course? I checked courses by country here and didn't see it. 8)
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Flynn course. Very exclusive and highly regarded.  I’m sure many here can provide thoughts.  Not me.

O’boy, article says $150,000. Also says they have had past issues with admitting minorities and Jews in the past. Sounds like a great place....... https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2021/01/ivanka-trump-jared-kushner-not-welcome-indian-creek-country-club-mar-a-lago

In fairness, they have had problems in the past. How long ago? Many places had those problems in the past. Just my own probably self serving view, but if it was 20 years ago maybe it has been corrected.

Running to get powerball ticket which wouldn't be enough to buy them out at Indian Creek. Super wealthy enclave is an island off of Miami Beach built in the 1920's as a housing play by some Mid western businessmen. William Flynn designed the golf course which is a gem, not long but emblematic of his use of green angles and some earth moving to build a fantastic golf course.

It's an easy golf course by modern standards but is so much fun with plenty of holes that can trip up even the expert.  The stretch of holes from 10-13 is so much fun, with a mix of par that goes 4,5,3,4 with plenty of water and wind on most days.

Finish up a little later !

Played there once with the buddy of my old boss -- he insisted on buying me a purple shirt in the pro shop to take home (Go Cats!). Doc Rivers and Ray Allen played as guests in front of us. . . they were very slow! The members I met, including a Northwestern trustee, were welcoming, tho I clearly fit the correct demographic. Thought it was nice to play a Florida course where a slightly missed shot did not mean losing a ball in the water.

Lore has it that Indian Creek is as tough to access as Seminole. Any insight on that assertion?

Thanks for posting the picture. That’s interesting, the course takes up almost the entire island but the lots on the water.

My wife grew up in the middle of the island and had to catch a school bus each day at the bridge. Her father was the supt there for 11 years.  If I rememebr correctly the island began and 2 acres in 1925, approx... and became a approx 300 acre dredging project in less than 3 years...pretty impressive...I played it about 5 years ago in January and it was an rxtremely cold day for that region...Iguanas were falling from the trees frozen...

Close, but I would say Seminole is tougher (and better IMO).  Raymond Floyd used to live on the island and then sold his house there after his wife Maria passed away.

Just looked at a boat chase scene in that old classic b-movie "Murph the Surf" to see if I could spot Indian Creek. Not sure though it might be in a background shot  ;D

I'd venture that Indian Creek has less members than Seminole and might be harder to get in also. Your golfing prowess wouldn't necessarily benefit near as much as it's northern neighbor. Don't know whether car magnate Norman Braman became a member there but pretty sure the anti Jewish sentiment was run up and down the flagpole pretty good as to why he was blocked. I have no idea if that was the case and probably wouldn't postulate here if I did.

I've seen photographs of the island during construction and it's pretty easy to find if you google it for any who want to read the story of how it came to be. It's become quite an enclave over the years that have passed and you can understand why the super rich feel comfy and safe there. Unless you are like the aforementioned "Murph"  if you are on the island they know you are there!

As to the course again it really requires you to be an excellent wedge player, ala Raymond Floyd who played there for many years. He would tune up for the tour there with some big money games against members who weren't afraid to bet and could play. It was and is quite the place. It would surely qualify as a course most of us would really enjoy every day. lots of wind some really tricky par threes and some risk reward shots if you choose to attack.
It was and is quite the place

It's an OK course, certainly no world class venue.  The clubhouse, however, is about as cool as they come!

Jonathan it's much better than "ok".  Excellent greens with some tough pinnable spots, some risk reward think #13, and lots of beautiful views and tricky winds on an almost daily basis. Don't know where you play in Florida but there aren't a whole lot of places I wouldn't have lots of fun playing for a few days with a bunch of friends, and I'm just talking the golf course. We might not get past the gatehouse ;D

Numbers 2 & 3 are nice holes, 5 &  12 are excellent one shotters and so what if you can make some birdies if you play well. I think it's quite good , although way out of my price range.

Seminole is light years ahead of Indian Creek.  I've played 30 or so Flynn courses and would put 4-5 of those ahead of Indian Creek.  There are certainly some cool holes at IC but as a collection I just wasn't gaga about the layout.

It’s all about semantics. Our definition of “ok” just differs. I certainly don’t think it’s as good as Seminole but it’s fun , in great condition with some fabulous views.  Really good  in my lexicon of golf courses nationwide !
