I am far from an Augusta apologist, but saying that turf 3 weeks out from an overseeding event is "crappy" is like saying that a toddler is useless because he can't hold down a job. These are young plants and it takes time for them to mature into the typical stand that you see in April.


And as for the comment "they had to overseed," no they always overseed. The entirety of the time the club is open the turf is overseeded rye on bermudagrass wall to wall except for the bent greens.


I'm feeling like the Agronomy Police these days.

Jeff, I think we talked about this way back when the pandemic started and the Masters got moved, but I suspect that the Bermuda there is NOT the hybrid stuff that good golf courses have nowadays.  And if it's old "common" Bermuda, well...

There are no “bare” spots. Just some areas where the overseed is a little thin due to being pushed a little too hard early in the process.
ANGC set the date and set the agronomic plan.  They got a bad break with the downpour on Thursday.  But I’m guessing it’ll be as sporty as it has been all week tomorrow.  Expect wayward shots around the greens to bounce a little harder snd farther on Sunday.

The golf course is amazing...as it always is.  Today was the first day I watched...it looks like The Masters to me.  Anybody worrying about the visuals of the turf are picking at nits.

Some of the tees looked damp if not wet so it was a surprise to see so many players not wearing spikes. Slips can cost shots and when there's a green jacket as stake .....

Depending on how you view the exact dates, the overseed is 45-50days old.

As someone brought up on a clay course in the west of Scotland looks pretty fine to me. The only comment I have is the number of references to mud balls. Presumably muttering "mud ball" when duffing a shot with an iron/wood is the equivalent to when they miss a putt they should have sunk and start patting down some imaginary spike mark on their line ?
