Masters 2020 predictions - Champion & Score?
« on: November 08, 2020, 12:56:23 AM »
We all remember that when Covid hit to the extent that the majors has to reshuffle and even The Open was cancelled (disappointing). When ANGC picked a November date I think just about everyone was like, what? Can they play then?

Of course they can and the course is beautiful from what I have seen.

2 simple questions:
  • Who will win?
  • What will be the winning score?

Based on the Golf article, I would say DeChambeau at -15

Head: Dechambeau -20 (new scoring record plus forcing USGA + R&A to act)

That's entirely in the realm of possibility, depending on course conditions.

Speaking of that, does/will ANGC play differently in November than April? For example, do the fairways and greens tend to be firmer this time of year? If so, what problems will that pose to the players who are used to the course being on the softer side of firm in April? I imagine with the millions spent on irrigation and sophisticated computer systems to control the minutest of details the superintendent can dial-in and set the condition to have the course play however they so choose fairly easily, rain just before and during the tournament not withstanding. Also, will the rough be the same length as it's been the past few years or will it be even longer? If the fairways are ultra firm I can see balls going through them into the rough creating difficult approach shots to firmer than usual greens.

The forecast is looking warm and wet with very light breezes under 10 mph.

Would it be bermuda or overseeded rye per usual custom?

Yes, overseeded rye. I was hoping for an alternate universe where the Masters was played on wall to wall dormant bermuda with perfectly green rye tees and the usual greens, but alas...

DeChambeau by 20 clear shots hopefully thus embarrassing the USGA and R&A into ending their dithering and procrastinating and deal with the equipment issue.

It's interesting that DeChambeau was lowest Amateur at the Masters just 4 years ago ....

Ironic everyone is pulling for DeChambeau, not because they like him, but because of the hopeful fall out.

I am pulling for Ricky Fowler -8.

Others I would like to see win: Rory, JT or Spieth.

I don't think BDC will win as I'm not convinced he has the creativity for chips and and putts required at ANGC.  Although Vijay did win it years ago, but there are always exceptions to the rule...

I gotta go with DJ, he's just on fire right now, and nearly pulled off another win yesterday.

Ding ding ding. I don't think anyone predicting he will win is necessarily pulling for him, but he did just win at Winged Foot which most thought would not fit his new game at all.

BDC, -17

Heard on the Shotgun Start Rory said he was picking up mud balls in his practice rounds. Gotta believe the way Bryson hits it he gets lots -- he implodes in a mud rage and Brooks wins with a steady -14 . Really hoping Wolff wins as I have him at 65 to 1.

The other thing they said was that the Rye hasn't overtaken the Bermuda because of the warm weather so the chipping out of soft bermuda could be a problem.

John Rahm pulls it out, perhaps in a playoff @ -13.......it may be sloppy and wet with sticky chips and mud ball approach shots.

There will be no "Lift, Clean & Cheat @ ANGC if the weather predictions hold.

When you look at the field, very small number of logical winners. I am going with Tiger in a playoff over Webb Simpson.
