Buck Club
« on: November 01, 2020, 07:12:30 AM »
I saw a Twitter post from King-Collins yesterday that advised they are no longer involved with the Buck Club. Is the plan for Zac to go it alone on the design side?

It's still on their site, but should come down this week if true.

I'm stoke about this: https://golf.com/news/sweetens-cove-king-collins-accord-new-york/

Thanks for the lift, Tim. It took me to their site and showed me the NYP.

I believe Zac has suffered an injury that may curtail his professional golfing career. As he is one of only a couple of reasons I follow the Tour on a weekly basis I wish for him the quickest recovery. The Buck Club has only been a dumpster fire for the exact demographic it was envisioned. I'm sure Zac has learned many lessons as he watched his "friends and admirers" turn against him. I hope he completes his dream and turns away every back stabbing snowflake at the gate.

It looks like there will be a Ringer at Sweetens Cove in a couple of weeks. Given the large media presence we should get some answers then.

Surely it should have been Zac that announce this news rather than King and Collins as it is his project.

For me it is a bit disrespectful to a client that K+C made this announcement 'out of the blue'.

I guess Zac has his reasons why and who knows he might have something else up his sleeve. We will have to wait and see for a response from Zac's himself rather than spread rumours.

It seems that if you want to get elbows deep in your architect’s process and play at being the designer yourself, you either need Michael Pascucci money or a Sebonack-quality site, preferably both.

Zac appears to have neither.

The course might get built, it might not. It might be really good, it might stink. Anything is possible, but at this point Zac has spent a lot of credibility over several years on bold announcements that have not progressed into actions.

The fact that he was able to peddle merch for a product that doesn’t exist tells me he missed his calling in marketing or sales

I’ve never understood the allure of the merchandise without the golf course. I know the hipsters love the stuff but I get dizzy just thinking about the answer I would have to give to “Hey nice hat. What’s the Buck Club?”

This is why the name works, it can easily reference more than just a golf club...

I think Arnold Palmer did use Pennzoil in that tractor at Latrobe, didn’t use the Palmer-branded clubs that Sears used to sell, and never much pretended that he was the one actually designing the hundreds of golf courses that bear his name. It was a simpler (and yet maybe a more sophisticated) time back then: he said to us ‘This is how I make most of my money, because I don’t win much of it on the golf course anymore’, and we in turn said to him ‘We know that, and we don’t mind a bit — you’re Arnold Palmer, and this is the way we show that we love you’.

Peter,
I understand the point you’re trying to make, but to put those two in the same breath is ludicrous.  Arnies has done arguably more than anyone ever for golf....this is why he gets a pass.  We can buy pennzoil or play his courses, or reminisce about his amazing wins.  All we got with ZB is constant “merch drops”.  ZB used social media, and a hipster vibe to gas up a product that doesn’t even exist.  Big difference there imo!

What else is it if it’s not a golf club?  I am confused.

This is worse than the allusions on the Coore-Crenshaw Contiguous thread.

Ron,

Sometimes I just wonder.

On the Sandpiper thread you chastise the group in holier-than-thou fashion in reply 9 for those commenting on potential changes, and then on page 3 of that thread, you start posting speculative routings and instagram links from your site.

Then you lose your shit over discussion of an actual King-Collins tweet, posted yesterday: https://twitter.com/KingCollinsGolf?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

Damn man, what the hell.

I like Buck Club gear. I even bought a head cover as an attempt to be ironically ironic. You see it says that Slow Players will be removed from the course and I'm always in the slowest group on the course. No one ever got the joke.

Hey everyone hope all is well on the interweb

I don’t get on much so I at least wanted to shed some light on the project in SC.

Yes I made the decision to go in a different direction from king Collins regarding this project. Untimely I didn’t feel like they were the perfect fit for this specific job.

And as for an update regarding the future of the project we intend to assemble a group of very talented experienced people to help execute my vision.

The only thing I’ve ever wanted to do was make a very cool place for people that love golf to be able to enjoy. I have absolutely made some mistakes along the way in regards to comparing it to places etc.
And there are probably other things that I didn’t handle it the correct way but I would like everybody to understand that it was never trying to be cocky or acting like I knew more than other people or acting like I would be able to accomplish my dream without the help of others that are a lot more experienced than myself.

Also in regards to the brand that the buck club has become it ultimately started by making some products hats shirts Headcovers etc. for me and my friends and ultimately people kept asking about it people kept wanting to know where they could get it so we decided that it would be really cool to make some cool gear for people that wanted to support the vision.

It’s been amazing to see what is a Buck Club has become and how much support there has been from all over the world and even though there are some serious detractors and haters that don’t understand it there is also a massive group of people that it’s pulled together with a common love for golf.

And like I’ve mentioned before I am the one out here publicly trying to pursue my dream and build this amazing place so I am able to handle all the criticism that that comes with even if I don’t agree with all of it sometimes.

It’s very easy to make fun of someone out there trying to do some thing like this.
Especially when A big majority of people don’t really know the inns and outs of the project for many of the details.

I am more than happy to discuss the project or my vision/dream with anyone that ever wants to know more or find things out.

And I just wanted to come on here and drop this in to this thread to at least let people know that I feel very confident that we have a really cool site where we can build a really great golf course and that I’m not out here thinking that I know more than people and just trying to go out and do this on my own.

And again like I mentioned above if anyone ever would like to discuss or no more than just some random claims on Twitter or the Internet I would be more than happy to take a call.

Also I don’t think my shoulder is jeopardizing my career going forward I’m scheduled for surgery November 18 I am looking forward to a full recovery and getting back out and competing on the PGA tour in 2021.

Cheers

Zb
