Add my congrats to my buddy Forrest!  Not many people have worked harder on many issues on behalf of the ASGCA and game than Forrest.  The honor is long overdue.  Three points -

1. - If you need an ear, I'm always available to assist.
2. - Don't do what I did, which was to transfer the one full day a week I spent marketing to ASGCA biz, at the expense of your own firm.
3. - Enjoy the ride and try NOT to be too quotable (Don't ask how I know this......) :)

Congratulations to Forrest!  This is a more than well deserved honor!  Forrest has not only been a partner with me on many design projects but also a mentor and most importantly a very good friend.  It was back in 2002/3 when I first met Forrest.  I owe a lot to Forrest as he took me under his wing. You won’t find anyone more passionate or more generous with his time and energy and expertise.  He is fun to be around and we have had many great times together.

This will probably all go to his head and I will have to deal with it  :)  but it’s worth saying because it is true.  Well done Forrest!

Wow Mark — who wrote that for you?   ;D   And, yes, I recall that meeting. Something must have been in the water, because we agreed to write book about hazards — what were we thinking?

I am sure that whatever Doug wrote goes for me too.

I've met Forrest at a trade show in SoCal circa 2008 and found him to be candid and willing to share his considerable knowledge.  I regret not making the trip to Mexico around that time to sample his work.

His book on routing is on my desk ready for a deep dive, next to Tom Doak's.  The one on bunkers and hazards is somewhere in my bookshelves in wait for a second reading.  Both are valuable contributions to the gca literature.

Congratulations Forrest!  I hope that your term is successful and filled with many memorable experiences.

Forrest, I've enjoyed reading your commentary over the years in this Dgroup. I wish you great success, and hope that you leave your mark on the only organization that wouldn't have Tom Doak as a member (or was it a Marx brother?)

Doug, I just hope the short letters were not a joke about Forrest's height.......He may be short but not short on skill, or small, but not of small stature.

At least in my humble opinion.

You’ve posted twice on this thread without fully making your point. What gives?

I’m not a member of the ASGCSA, but fully understand the sacrifice it takes to be involved, and lead, an association. Congrats, Forrest!

Forrest,

I have always appreciated your post. I hope to make Olivas Links (CA), a home course next summer:

It looks great, and we love Ventura. I just did not have time to get there last trip.

I do believe that ASGCA should have a "value" model in their awards and such. Obviously you would be seen as "nominating yourself", so just take yourself out of the equation.

Congrats.

Good to see an Arizonan reach the pinnacle of the presidency of the ASGCA. Congratulations !

As an homage to Forrest, I played one of his " value courses" https://coldwatergolfclub.com/  A fun course to play and very reasonably priced.

So refreshing to hear kind words, and for Steve S. to venture to Coldwater! Wow. I hear the course is in good condition...my regret was not arguing more when Bill Kubly (original owner, and founder of Landscapes Unlimited) ripped out the railroad ties at my massive sleep-lined bunker at No. 15. I played like I didn't care, but I did. I miss them :(
