I’m a newbie here.

Can someone please enlighten me on what The Mashie is? It sounds like a fun get together of sorts

Usually a two day east v. west team event for 20-30 players at some worthy venue or venues in the Midwest.  Includes a round of four ball, and sometimes a round of singles, sometimes a round of alt shot, sometimes another round of better ball.  Mostly just a lot of fun and chance to connect or reconnect with people from GCA, or, as in my case, a chance to bring someone into the GCA community.  The best events to be the ones where most of us can stay on site.  May also include pre and post event rounds at courses in the area.

Copied from top of Thread | updated and bumped to update the date

04 Dec 2020 Update | 18 & 19 Sep 2021Not yet a sign up but some good news. Hopefully the vaccines are effective and COVID hospitalizations begin to decline. With that in mind, we have been able to place an excellent Midwest Mashie site on hold and are finalizing COVID related contingencies and accommodations.Mashie dates remain September 18 and 19, 2021.
Once we get confirmations, we will announce the site and open sign-ups before year end. Our intent is to piss off 2020 as it slinks back into its fetid and rancid septic tank.

The Mashie tunnel always ends in the light.

Not to play Mashie Historian but wouldn't next year be the 12th Mashie? First was in 2010 at Lost Dunes...in counting I came up with 12?

Poof. You are now the Mashie historian.
Almost like you can see into the future.

I'd like to make a motion to the Board to formally appoint Pat as Mashie Historian.

And he's right:

2010 - Lost Dunes
2011 - Lawsonia I
2012 - Broadmoor and The Fort
2013 - Kingsley
2014 - Canterbury
2015 - Windsong Farm and Town & Country
2016 - Wolf Run
2017 - Cedar Rapids CC
2018 - Northland CC
2019 - Prairie Dunes
2020 - Lawsonia II
2021 - ??? ??? ??? ???
Seconded

Any reason why wouldn't just go back to Forest Dunes? Seemed like they were pretty accommodating

Seconded. Is this an option or is it one of the places that has gotten booked up? Would love to be involved in 2021 regardless!

There was a mini-mashie-meet at Forest Dunes this past Sept when Pete Pittock, the Portland Express, rolled into northern lower Mich... things were in fine condition for the lad.   If anyone is in the territory next summer, do give a shout if you're so inclined, we're 45 min away at our Blue Lake summer camp...

Sweet, the one place I may be able to play next year.  35 miles from my in-laws, which may mean I can convince my wife who would otherwise be in charge of watching our three year old and our will be 3 month old (fingers crossed).  I mean, she'll still be in charge, but she'll have support.

1.  Bill:  Congratulations!  Super happy news.

2.  I have been wanting to play Harvester since it was built.  I wanted to play it more since the renovation.  I really like Foster's work.

3.  Again, the Committee deserves our praise.

Never had a reason to go to Iowa ... now do.
Will there be lodging recommendations?
Organized side venues?

Thx Carl, John and Bill.
Carl, yes we will have a variety of lodging options/pricing locked in for attendees. We will finalize additional/adjacent golf for attendees closer to the event but have some good options identified there as well.
