« on: September 23, 2020, 03:15:23 PM »

One of the best FF benefits available for a short time for those looking to travel in early 2021 by flying one time.

Southwest emailed users this morning with a sweet new promotion that makes it a lot easier to earn that coveted Companion Pass after taking just one flight — though this promotional pass will be valid for a much shorter duration than the regular pass.
Rapid Rewards members can register for the promotion here. You’ll need to purchase a new qualifying revenue flight (which can be one-way or round-trip) between Sept. 22 and Sept. 24, 2020, and you must travel before Nov. 15, 2020.
This includes domestic and international revenue flights booked in any fare class such as Wanna Get Away, Anytime, or Business Select. It doesn’t seem like this offer is targeted, as I haven’t flown Southwest in years and don’t hold a co-branded Southwest credit card.
Related: How to quickly earn the Southwest Companion Pass
Keep in mind that charter flights, group travel, Southwest Vacations packages and won’t qualify for the promotion. Changes made to the itinerary after purchase may eliminate qualification for promotion. Make sure you don’t book with Rapid Rewards points, because these bookings won’t qualify, either. Travelers will still have to pay taxes and fees, which start at $5.60 each way.
After you’ve met the requirements, your companion can fly with you for just the cost of taxes between Jan. 6, 2021 and Feb. 28, 2021. You can select your initial Companion within ‘My Account’ on the wesbite or by calling Southwest at 1-800-435-9792. To change your Companion, you must call 1-800-435-9792.

Yeah I just booked my thanksgiving flight!  Always seem to fall just short of the companion pass.  Not this time southwest!

Just curious how many of you guys are flying much right now.

I have not flown since March 1st, though I will probably get back on the horse in October to get from Colorado to California without tacking on another four days to a long driving trip.

However, if I flew anywhere for Thanksgiving, my family would only see me through a window!

I’ve done three flights since mid March. One to get back to the US from NZ. Will be on one tomorrow.

As for the experience, it’s oddly serene. Empty airports. Lots of empty seats. Everyone stays clear, no crowding to board. No lines at TSA.  It’s like flying before deregulation,,, except for the masks.

Tom,
This will be my first flight since February.  I have not been to a restaurant, much less in public other than grocery, golf course, and state parks since March 12th. We have had almost no contact with anyone.  I moved to Delaware with the wife and we don’t know anyone.  Been a blessing in disguise.  I’m a little worried, but no way I’m driving 11 hrs to turn around 2 days later and do it again.

I have cancelled trips to Texas, Israel, and Ireland and have not been on a plane since March. I generally fly about 50,000 miles a year. Feels very odd but I have enjoyed being home.

I just did my second flight to TVC in the last month -- feels safer than eating at a restaurant but who knows. There we police questioning a bunch of people on an inbound flight into MSP last night when I was going to my flight -- I'm guessing it was mask related.

Thank you for posting this.  Have two trips planned and got a ticket last night just in time.  Off topic, but both trips are golf related and hopefully I can use the companion pass this spring for more.

Something in my wheelhouse!

I’m extremely proud of how our company is weathering the pandemic and how we are appealing to customers. Efforts like this companion pass and keeping the middle seat open is a difficult decision from a revenue perspective, but it’s one that seems to build faith in flying at the moment.
