Three Architects for Three Nines
« on: August 03, 2020, 08:56:14 AM »
Many courses started with nine and as new holes were added a different designer was brought on. Tumblebrook CC in Bloomfield, Connecticut has three nines with three different designers(Wille Park Jr., Orrin Smith and George Fazio). Taking it a step farther would be 36 holes with four different designers. Any examples to add of the 27 or 36 hole variety?

Sea Island used to have four nines by four designers, before they redid them with Tom Fazio and Rees Jones.  The four different nines was not a successful selling point.

Jason,

Assume you are being facetious, however, Norman Woods was an associate of Stanley Thompson and at St. Charles, is responsible for a number of very good holes.  That being said, St. Charles had a Ross 18 and Mackenzie 9 leading into WW2.  I believe they stopped maintaining the West nine during the war, and Woods re-designed it after the war was over - utilizing some land previously not available to Ross (the polo grounds).
