Yea, nothing like ignoring the fact that most people stayed in Florida rather than going back up north because of the virus restrictions. It's hotter than hell now and even hotter in Phoenix. Afternoons are WFO.

After the courses reopened I wouldn’t be surprised if the recent percentage increase over last year were even higher. I think Wayne has been reporting that very fact.

earliest times available out here on the cheap publics in Suffolk County Tuesday were 4:00 (normally they'd be empty on a Tuesday in early June)

One thing to consider is that many courses are spacing tee times further apart, which is actually a good thing for pace of play.

Which is why the complete lock-down of golf (versus distancing, no-touch, etc., as re-opened) was stupid from the get-go.  Even as the numbskulls were seeding care homes with the virus by government order.

Tee times are not scarce in the afternoon here in Phoenix in the summer.


Early morning tee times are preferred. Some courses start at sunrise. My "club" starts at 630am.

The sad truth is, we still don't know much about how the virus spreads or how long it stays active on surfaces.   It would have been cavalier not to take all precautions in the face of such uncertainty.

What we do know is that the numbers keep rising and the germ keeps spreading inland from both coasts.   

On May 7th we had 1,250,805 cases and 75,423 deaths in the United States.   

As I type on June 11th we have 2,008,905 cases and 113,168 deaths.   

Spikes are occurring in states that opened early and as a country we're tracking to double the number of cases every two months.   

Deaths average over 1,000 per day but some insist on going back to business as usual.

Participation trophies are for people who show up. I’ve never met a man who did his best that wasn’t a winner.

I would think it would be just as easy to get afternoon tee times in Arizona as Florida in the Summer months.

I'm going to confirm that most of our golf courses at the Jersey Shore have times booked later into the day than I can ever remember. Obviously tee times intervals is part of the reason but lots of people haven't gone back to work yet and are searching for a safe alternative to recreate,

Winick’s continued reminders of being forced to play public’s in Arizona because of the Covid no guest policy may have played an interesting role. Could 10% of these unavailable tee times open up when the access floodgates are reopened?

Our course has resorted to 7 minute spaced weekend tee times from the usual 10 in order to get all out who want to play. Everyone I see who is venturing outdoors is not practicing social distancing, and it’s very easy to do on the course.

Talking to one of the pros at my main club they are seeing the following:


Many members that normally play once a week are now playing 2 or 3 times a week, once a month members are playing once a week and members that you would only see a couple of times a year are playing a few times a week or more. The club's busiest Sunday in memory was realized with no member's event and limited guest play.
