West Shore Golf in Douglas Michigan (NLE) had the best food in my memory, although my tastes back in the 70's were different than I have now.
They had a diner and malt shop which took up over half of the clubhouse. A huge porch maybe 80 x 16 ft looked down on the 9th, 10th and 18th fairways. Somehow, their cheeseburgers and chocolate malts, eaten on the porch between 18's, watching other golfers, always seemed supernaturally good. The fried onion nuggets were pretty awesome also!
I realize it may have been mostly the ambiance, but whenever I suggested the 90 minute ride to Douglas to my friends they would always exclaim how they had been craving the West Shore burgers. I never had problems finding friends to fill out my foursome for the monthly trip to the West Shore of Lake Michigan.
