Outpost Foundation Emergency Relief Auction
« on: May 28, 2020, 12:29:05 PM »
Dear Golfers,

I suspect this might interest some of you. The Outpost Foundation is conducting an online auction for its Emergency Relief Fund and there are some rather exciting opportunities to play with well known architects, including Tom Doak at The Loop, Gil Hanse at Ohoopee, Mike DeVries at Kingsley and Rob Collins at Sweetens Cove. Zac Blair has offered a tour of his proposed site for The Buck Club near Aiken, S.C., followed by a round at Palmetto. There's also a number of architecturally related opportunities, including a round with Andy Johnson at Old Sandwich and one with two of the No Laying Up guys. In addition, there are some notable sports celebrities.

All proceeds from the auction will support the OF Emergency Relief Fund. These grants will provide emergency aid to independent contractors in the golf industry that face unforeseen expenses that cannot or will not be covered by insurance or other means. Members of the golf community who rely on gratuities such as caddies, locker room attendants, and outside services workers need our help as they grapple with the hardships resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier this spring, the OF ERF raised and distributed $175,000 in $1,000 unit grants to 175 individuals. We were so overwhelmed with the applications that it prompted this second round of fundraising.

We thank you for considering a bid.

Hey Colin,

Hope you and yours are all safe and doing well. Great auction for a great cause!

Thought you might want to ask whomever was responsible for the following text from the "Golf with Andy Johnson" item if they've ever heard of Randolph Morrissett and Bradley Klein???

"Golf’s corner of the Internet probably has no one more responsible for the rise in attention to golf course architecture than Andy Johnson. Since launching The Fried Egg in 2015 — first as a newsletter, then as a website, and followed by a podcast in 2016 — Johnson has educated intro-level architecture newbies and interviewed the profession’s leading thinkers."

Asking for a friend(s)!

I thought it was in Utah?  It moved 2000 miles?  Or is there going to be a second one, before there is even a first one?  I'm so behind on the latest gossip . . .

Had the same thought, but found a Deseret News article about Zac teeing it up in the next PGA tournament.
https://www.deseret.com/sports/2020/5/21/21262258/zac-blair-golf-pga-tour-byu-anxious-provo-utah
 It ends with these paragraphs:
For the last three years, Blair has also been working on starting a golf club, called the Buck Club. Blair is a regular on Twitter with a loyal following and the Buck Club is regular topic. The club even has a logo and merchandise as well as a layout that Blair helped design. He originally planned to build it in northern Utah, but it didn’t work out and now the plans are to build on a piece of property in southern South Carolina, not far from Augusta National.
“Everything is falling into place, it’s a cool little project, working out great right now with all of the time off and down time,” he said. “It’s been fun to put a little attention into that.”
He says it has worked out better being back east where there’s a little more golf-heavy population but adds, “it’ll be a nice place for folks in Utah to go out in the winter.”

On the recent No Laying Up podcast Rob Collins said it turned out to be too expensive to build in Utah given the soils etc. They found a sand site near Aiken that will let them build 24 holes for less than half of what it would have cost to build 18 in Utah.

Is it going to be the same layout? Weren't the original Buck Club plans site-specific?

I wouldn't expect people on a Golf Course Architecture website to want to see the raw land prior to a Golf Course being built --plus you get to play Palmetto with a PGA tour player --sounds like an awful day.

Bummer to hear this.  Was looking forward to see what they would do with the site in Utah.

Good Luck to him either way, although I doubt many Utahns will be traveling to Georgia to play TBC...

P.S.  I've seen the proposed site here in Utah and while most of it was flat, a few holes on the back 9 would have been custom fit to the landforms found there.  Some pics on this page from the original thread..

Buck,
You got any stock tips? You nailed this one.
Or maybe I should just short John's....

I want to thank anyone who might have bid, whether they were successful or not.

Again, these funds will go directly to the very individuals drastically impacted by the sudden suspension of golf this spring.
If you know of any individuals, please refer them to the link for applications.
