Don't worry. You can stay in the two bed cottage for £5k per night.

If one can afford the digs, what does the price of the golf matter?

Astonishingly, no it doesn't. The golf is £480 a round on top of that!!!

Talk about bifurcation!
The top dollar resorts with magnificent golf courses on one end, the ratty old mom & pop operations charging $28 on the other.
Until, that is, the ratty old mom & pop operations get scooped up for housing the urban sprawl.

:)
Only the stitching is made of leather; the bag itself is 100% marmoset, with panda fur trim. Also, it only holds 4 clubs.

Worth listening to this podcast with Aussie architect Bob Harrison about the background to and building of Ardfin - the Ardfin section of the podcast starts about 60 mins into the discussion - http://podcasts.nextmedia.com.au/thingaboutgolf/thethingaboutgolf01x12.mp3

FFS.
An eminently reasonable man, full of charm and good humour, and with many and varied talents and a caring heart. But don't tell Marty B that a course in his beloved Scotland will blithely charge £5000 for a night's stay, and has the temerity to then ask for an additional £480 just to play a round! If you do, you get a FFS

I now have the exact numbers if people are interested.

Single room from £1,080 per night inc. VAT.
F&B charged as taken; golf £480 per round.

Special Resident Golf Package -- golf, breakfast, lunch, dinner: £600 per day inc. VAT.

(so therefore £1680 minimum for inclusive golf, accommodation and F&B).

Jura House can be rented for a nightly rate of £24,000 inc. VAT. 3 night minimum stay. Golf charged at £480 per round; F&B as taken.

Non-resident golf: day ticket £1,560 inc VAT per person; F&B as taken.

Peter,
Thank you so much for the ego massage. Much appreciated!
I had actually composed a long, rambling post bemoaning the utter temerity of this proposal, but deciding that brevity and levity were a far more suitable response, settled on the concise, yet still quite effective, use of a favourite TLA of mine to convey my disbelief and contempt.
Love,
M.

This is terribly incomplete journalism I'm afraid.

They only quoted the most expensive possible options and while a very high end visit, so are many others out there. Start with Tara Iti, then go to Sand Hills, Pebble Beach, Les Bordes and the list goes on and that's for the courses that are even possible to visit.

A night and round at Pebble is very steep then you have to put up with a 5-6 hour round, spend a fortune in the store etc etc. I'd take Ardfin 10 out of 10 times.

I think the nightly rates are closer to 1500 including food and maybe even golf if a small group goes but then we talking about amazing rooms and food and not the Castle (20k) or the 2 bedroom place (5k)

On top of that you are likely to have the course to yourself. Which would be rare at any of the above mentioned places. If you like that sort of thing.

Yes still very high end but not what the writer would have you believe (unless of course I didn't see where the complete information was listed).

David,
This is Scotland, man, where anyone can get a more than decent round of golf on some of the oldest, finest golf courses in the world for thirty or forty quid.

Edit: T-H-E O-L-D C-O-U-R-S-E is £195 High Season this year. The OLD COURSE! ;D

What a location to build a course in. Amazing construction logistics to overcome, as Bob H mentions in the podcast highlighted in my earlier post.
And here’s the thread following Rans Courses by Country post -

Worth pointing out that Ardfin is number 26 in the 147 Custodians listing.

Marty, as you may know I love Scotland! So no argument but you are kind of comparing apples to pears here. Loch Lommond is also in Scotland. ;-)

The course looks like great fun but the pricing seems arbitrary. I’d be interested to know what their projected rounds are with the stated model.

That's an awful lot to charge for golf. You'd have to be extremely agoraphobic to warrant paying that much just so you have the course to yourself.

Reading some other GCA threads on the place.  Some are claiming its a 9 or 10?  Is that accurate?

I suppose the price point would at least be somewhat in the realm of understandable if you get a top 100 course all to yourself or buddies for a 36 hole day.
