Is building on an actual beach the same as "building on sand" the way we usually talk about it?

The course is pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised.

Excellent set of greens. Plenty of width off the tee with approaches requiring pretty good precision or your playing defense even on the greens.

Back side is particularly good/fun until the last couple of holes which are the weak points of the course in my mind.

It’s in the upper tier of golf in Cabo.

Anything with Greg’s endorsement I would be eager to play and most especially in Cabo.

Thanks Tim.

The delay of the course construction was a water issue as Rancho was not receiving its rightful allocation of treated water and thus the grassing was completed a couple holes at a time while the water issues were straightened out which took quite some time to resolve.

The course should mature significantly over the coming months and get better as the vegetation takes hold on a handful of holes.

Greg - is this near Diamante?  Exposed to the wind I presume?

It looks like Diamante is almost adjacent to RSL:

Not quite. The beach sand is quite unstable -- the particles are very rounded. Not idea, especially as they decided to build revetted bunkers; done using natural materials the walls would have lacked structural integrity (this is aside from the difficulty of doing revet in warm season grasses, which is considerable). Hence they used the Ecobunker Advanced synthetic construction method, which involved the use of cement modified sand backfill behind the wall to enhance stability.

Jason, it is close to Diamante with one parcel between the two projects. The wind will be similar to Diamante during that season.

Don't be put off by the wind:

"For use during the windy season in late spring, Norman and his design team have devised a 12-hole Short Course that consists of 12 low-lying holes drawn from the regulation 18. These holes are sheltered by the dunes and shielded from Pacific breezes."
