Anyone know anything about the “school” where Mr. Bartholomew studied under Seth Raynor?

I was also perplexed by that line, having never heard of such a thing in the literature.  I suspect he said he went to the Seth Raynor school of golf architecture, and some long-ago writer thought that was actually a school.  It's too bad he's not still around to interview.

It's amazing to me that Mr. Bartholomew's career was written up by SPORTS ILLUSTRATED in 1966 and yet the story had somehow managed to disappear from public knowledge again, after that.

As George wrote: In the book, Forbidden Fairways by Calvin Sinette, Dr Sinette and I spoke before the book was complete and I think there are any number of references about the esteemed Mr Bartholomew.
Funny story about our conversation: Sinette got my number, called me asking the following; "i am under the impression Joe Bartholomew graduated ("graduated" ??? ) from the Seth Raynor architecture school?"  .....  I said yeah Calvin, that was called pick, rake and shovel.

Maybe Gib will chime in.

While I search for that SI story, those of you who are old enough (I was 12 that year, and might have just begun my SI subscription) might get a kick out of that year’s covers:

That was great, Dan.  I would never have believed that the Golfer to Beat in 1960 was Art Wall.  Talk about a cover jinx!

Just asked the writer, on Twitter, for the date of the SI article (after failing to find it in the Vault).

If he answers, I will let you know.

To no one's surprise, I have not heard from the writer.
