Gloat (verb): to feel or express great pleasure or satisfaction because of your own success or good luck, or someone else's failure or bad luck.

That makes it unfree.
I didn't see an ad when I watched it, nor is there an ad in the downloaded movie file.

IMO, the video does not detract from CPC or lessen one's desire to play it some day. In fact, I think the opposite is more likely true.
It didn't detract from my desire to play there. So if anyone needs a fourth, PM me! ;D
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Drones videos such as these don’t detract from a desire they steal from the satisfaction. They are in some sense of the word “golf porn”.

We're well aware of your opinions on drone footage at this point John. The thing is they're just that: your opinions.

I'm grateful and glad that these videos exist.

I thought it was pretty cool.  The routing isn't super easy to figure out from aerials without some help.  And while the writing was a bit overwrought, sheesh, Nantz was really over the top.  He could have dialed it back a bit.  Someone with a drone and a gift for humor could do a great send up of this, though it would likely appeal to a very small audience.

It is only "free" for you to upload and watch videos on YouTube because they sell advertisements and sell your data.

I enjoyed watching the video as it helped me remember a few holes that I have forgotten when I played 15 years ago.

I am similar to John that I try not to read or lookup a course before I play it; however, after I played it... it is nice to see the course and remind me of different shots I hit.

Can you imagine a world where you play the 15th at Cypress not knowing what lies ahead? Most of us have had that "Oh yes it can" moment to the "It can't get better than this" experience. I just don't want to have to die to live through another one.

John,

As I was playing the 14th hole, I knew what lay ahead just over 17 Mile drive... but seeing it for the first time still blew me away.  As good as those ocean holes look in pictures, its even better in real life when you feel the salty ocean air and hear the waves cracking on the rocks.

Not sure what you mean by this, but full disclosure, having spent my entire life out West, I've been up and down the entire West Coast from the tip of Washington State to San Diego, and nowhere else have a i found a finer more magical meeting of surf, beach, and surrounds than the Monterey area. So it may just be me....

Jim Nantz is a member so I'm sure this was vetted by the club. Pine Valley did this a few years ago, narrated by Golf Digests Jerry Tarde and produced by Golf Digest who made money off it.

CPC may be promoting the course prior to the Walker Cup.
