Cypress Point - drone overhead

I’ve not been there (unfortunately) but this drone overhead indicates to me why so many folks rave about Cypress Point - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jsz4CQj244I

Terrific footage, but I had to mute the audio.  I like Jim N on the CBS telecasts, but that was just painful..

Why would the club agree to this? I get Mouth Breather Mondays so the caddies can make some extra cash. I don't get this unless Cypress is getting paid.

I too didn't understand the excited and over the top narration by Nantz.  I would expect so much better from him.  I suspect he was forced into this.

"A surprising and unique finish to your round."  About the best you could say about 18.

It must be kept in mind that the elusive charm of the game suffers as soon as any successful method of standardization is allowed to creep in.  A golf course should never pretend to be, nor is intended to be, an infallible tribunal.

If I was a member or was able to play the course frequently, I too would be wildly giddy.  There are better courses, but none that I would prefer playing.

I like #18, mostly because it is such an antithetical finishing hole.  Thread something small off the tee between the trees.  Pick a club that you can hit on a string and add one to get up the hill.  Don't go long; miss your 4' from above the hole to win the bets and you may not be asked back!  If it was the 3rd or 12th hole, I bet it would be less controversial.

Surprised at negative reaction to Nantz - not that it isn’t deserved. It is.  What I find surprising is that you are surprised at how bad and over the top he is.
Why would the club do this?  Maybe the members are just proud and want to share an experience most can only hear about.  I certainly enjoyed it.  And I am blown away by how important trees and bunkers are to both the beauty of the course and the challenge it presents.

Worse than Nantz were the ridiculously large signs indicating hole and yardage. It takes away half of the drive perspective.

Cypress does not need to get paid for this.

If I were a member, I would absolutely support getting this out, to show the great design as well as great maintenance. I love the work they did on the ice plant. Course looking great. Good for them!

Drone does not do justice to its design and beauty.

I doubt the membership at CPC is fundamentally different than any other high profile/exclusive club.

Plenty of ego and cash lying around, so why not?

P.S.  Nantz is usually a lot more subdued and not nearly as cliched ridden, but he probably didn't write the script.

That video was great to watch - thank you.
The landscape is so beautiful, the bunkers do all line up "like a sea of bunkers" on #4.
It helped relive a round there almost 20 years ago.
Yes Nantz is over the top, but golf is pretty boring to most, how else could he introduce Cypress to the masses?
I wish they would remove or at least relocate the ball washer behind the 9th green - it was an easily seen artificial target line for me.
I'm so glad Bob enjoyed many years here.

Hopefully the members of Cypress Point also post pictures on social media of where they live, who they love and what they eat. I personally don’t see the value in this type of information and believe it it eventually degrades both parties. I watched the video, I wish I hadn’t.

I never read a movie review before I see it. I doubt that anyone could watch this video of Cypress and not lose at least some small thrill along the way while actually playing.

I can only imagine how the world would change if we had a drone video of heaven. I love mystery and discovery and both even more when they aren’t mutually exclusive.

I can look at a picture of my wife and find her just as beautiful when she walks into the room ten minutes later.

I don’t have a picture of my wife and can honestly say she surprises me every day. I bet I go days without even seeing her face.

Barney,

If you ask real nice, i'm guessing Nantz just may do a video montage of your wife, so you can see her everyday...even when you don't!

P.S.  Courses like CPC are more masterpieces of art than golf course, so why hide it?

For tax reasons. You can’t hang an art piece in a museum and then collect fees for just your select friends to view it. You are either private or you are not.

After 30 seconds of Nantz I muted the audio and subsequently enjoyed the video.

There is an ad for Lincoln before the video. Nothing good can possibly come from financial and environmental braggadocio.

John,

Not sure how much you watch stuff on YouTube, everything has an ad before it.  Even if I posted something, an ad would play before it.

I didn't see an ad when I watched it, nor is there an ad in the downloaded movie file.

IMO, the video does not detract from CPC or lessen one's desire to play it some day. In fact, I think the opposite is more likely true.
