Midwest USA GCA Knockout 2020 - Reply 43 for Bracket
« on: January 22, 2020, 10:05:20 AM »
I will go ahead and start taking names for the 2020 edition of the Midwest Knockout.  Congrats to last year's winner George Smiltins.  Again please provide your location so that I can try to minimize drive time for the first few matches.  If you have any comments or suggestions on how things can be improved please let me know.  This year we may try to have some sort of opening day outing, or try to have those who have scheduled a match post it so that another game may join if there's room.  It also might be fun to have those who participated in the Knockout to watch or play alongside the championship match.  Random pairings will take place around the first of March.

Thank you for setting this up again James!

My prediction for this years winner:

Thanks again for doing this!  I'm in (and still in Chicago).  If you want to start a list of possible hosts (for any round, really), I will volunteer as a potential candidate...

Is Virginia included in this?

John - It would depend if you were willing to put some drive time in to play your match(es).  The farthest east participants have been in previous years is Cleveland and farthest south Louisville, I believe.

It appears that I will be too busy this summer to participate, based on the optimistic assumption that I would have made it past the first round.

However, to support the event, I will offer to host the final match at Crystal Downs in October, if the two finalists want to play there -- partly to encourage everyone to keep the competition moving.

Tom - that is very gracious of you.  I anticipate that we will have a record number of participants this year and that the matches will be much more intense!

I'd like to play again. Minneapolis but travel to Chicago fairly often and to N Michigan occasionally during the summer.

JReese, where is the most western place I’d need to travel?  Or, is that impossible to tell until you make the bracket?

Put me down as... "Chicago" as I hope to get there a couple times this year and can maybe schedule a round1/2 together with the other 3 guys in a bracket.  Happy to host somewhere.

The first few rounds would likely take place against participants from KY, Cincinnati or Columbus.  If you make it to later stages you could end up playing someone from Minnesota or Northern MI.

This sounds interesting.... can someone provide me details of this event?

Is it a year long event where different people host?   What is the format?

Is there even a spot if I wanted to do it?

Thanks!

Please put me on the opposite side as Dan, as I would like to have a fantasy chance at contending! Odds on favorite for sure Dan will be.

Alright, count me in for this year.  My kid is almost two, and I think I may be able to actually get away for some rounds here and there this year.

Thanks for putting this together again. I think I might finally be able to participate this year. I live out in the farm land west of Indianapolis.
