Scottsdale National is the only one I can think of out here in Phoenix, and that is 45 holes of no homes.  (though Bob Parsons is building his mansion in the corner of the property)

A few houses have been built at Ballyhack. They are so far off the course that you don't hardly notice them, however.

Yeah, at the Olde Farm, the owner built his home on a separate 250 acres, adjacent to the golf course, but I figured that wouldn't count. I suppose there are some cottages at Ballyhack and OF, for non-resident members to lodge, but I didn't figure that counted, since they aren't permanent residences.

Oh, I was reading non-residential as courses that aren't routed around homesites. I've only played Old Tabby once, but I don't remember seeing any houses on any of the holes.

I know it ended up public (and is now back to private) but it was originally built to be private and doesn't seem to have been built with housing in mind. I don't know the specifics, though.

The course was built without regard to housing but the total size of the property was over 1000 acres. After setting aside 300 for the course, the remainder was intended for a clubhouse, housing lots and a members' recreation area. Over 200 lots were platted.

Spring Hill and Windsong Farm in the western Twin Cities suburbs both opened early part of the 2000s and are private/non-residential.

In Michigan I can only think of Lost Dunes, Kingsley and Lochenheath which has gone between private and public and back to private.
