While I believe the old #3 is beyond recovery, is it possible to restore holes (old) 4,6 and 8?  There is a lot of potential.  I was disappointed in my only play there.  The seaside ambiance is there, minus the view to the ocean.  The architecture was pretty much gone.  With resources Blasi could make the course excellent again.

Marty -

I think the hopes and future plans for Sharp Park have become more modest over the past few years due to the financial and environmental constraints. The economic fallout from our current global crisis only makes the issues of budgets and funding even more difficult.

The primary goals currently are to work on restoring/expanding the greens and greenside bunkers, trim back trees where appropriate and improve the drainage. I don't think a total renovation of the course is in the cards at this point.

From Jay’s piece:
“In 1914 he assisted mentor H.S. Colt in designing St. Andrews’ Eden Course alongside the Eden Estuary northwest of the Old Course.”

And from Dylan’s:
Sharp Park is world’s only Mackenzie-designed muni located on the coast (we’ll grant him a sliver of credit for the Eden Course in St. Andrews, where Mackenzie worked as an assistant to the architect of record, H.S. Colt).

I’d love to hear their sources!

Marty,

It really is a dog track in its current form thou.  I lived most my life in the Bay area, and I was never tempted to play it, even with its location next to the ocean...

K,
Even more reason to try and restore it then, surely?

Totally agreed, its a great location and assuming they can never reclaim the holes that sit under the sea wall, it could still be a gem by fixing up the rest of it.  But Cali is nothing short of a Royal PITA when it comes to stuff like this.

While the bay area has some great World Class private courses, they desperately need affordable high quality public options.
