Niall,

If driving down from the north my inclination wouldn’t be to aim for Church Stretton but instead to play Delemere Forest or its next door neighbour Sandiway, which are both just SW of Manchester/M6, and then head to Welshpool for the Friday.

If feeling braver and more adventurous and time permits then after Delemere/Sandiway you could loop along the North Wales coast taking in the likes of Conwy, Nefyn(?), Harlech and Aberdovey and then head to Welshpool.

After Kington assuming time is are available I’d head for the likes of Minch’ Old, Painswick, Cleeve and then drive back northwards taking in some of the courses mentioned in my and Duncan’s earlier posts.

As Sean alludes to above, the likes of Welshpool, Church Stretton, Kington (to a lessor extent), Painswick and Cleeve require quite a bit of strong leg climbing so it would be worth considering carefully which hilly courses to play other than Welshpool and Kington. Some of the other GCA iconic options, like Minch’ Old, are fortunately nice and flat and easy to walk.

First let me apologize for hijacking this thread, but I have a request and I'm not familiar with where many of the GCA Welshman and Englishman live. So I thought this thread was as good as any to begin fishing.

Peter Korbakes and I are visiting Mildenhall, Brancaster, Woodhall and Hollinwell in the middle of May, but then I'm dropping him off at the airport in London. I'll be continuing on solo to:

Monday, May 11th: St Enodoc
Tuesday, May 12th: North Devon and possibly Sauton
Wednesday, May 13th: Pennard and Porthcawl
Thursday, May 14th: Porthcawl and Painswick

I'd welcome anyone interested in a game or a beer along the way.

Thanks,

Michael

Yankster, I will only be playing 18 daily.   Can fill in morning or afternoon where needed.  Also I have a 12:30 time at Formby Ladies on the 15th and 9:36 a.m. time on the men's course on the 16th, staying in the Dormie House between rounds.  Welcome company.

Likely staying at airbnb's.   Having mastered drinking in moderation I'll gladly serve as designated driver for any and all.

Not stupid at all. You have to be an administrator of the group to add folks. That said, I know some people so you are in 😉.

My Germany trip is now a different weekend, so I can possibly make BUDA2020.
Any space for me and La Nancy?

Aw crap.
Sorry, mate. Nancy now tells me Germany was originally 11-14, but has been moved to 18-20.
We’re therefore out for this year - again!

Very fine.

Well, it seems like it makes much more sense for there to be a GB&I side VS RoW....that is unless more Mercans commit!

FIVE SPOTS REMAINING.  I am very surprised. I thought 20 would be a good turn out.  Pearce was right, Kington has more pull than I suspected.

Sean, Cameron, my eldest son would like to play.  I have transferred the money for him.  He's in for all golf.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.
