Sorry Ben. I'm just along for the ride this time!

At least you are not up against the mighty Lou Duran as captain!  ;D

All you had to do Ben, when you captained against Lou, was defeat the worst golfer in the field to decidedly vanquish his team. How did that work out for you?

Umm didn't we half our singles at St Enodoc thanks to me getting par on the fearsome 18th?

I would say for the GB&I team you were the most intimidating opponent to play against that week - one your handicap is rather high and the other your height! It didn't bother me as I was used to being one of the smallest guys on a rugby field and give away most shots on the golf course  ;D boy we had a close match though

Lou is the ultimate competitor and determined to win fair - I have huge respect for him. That BUDA ended up being a 12-12 draw.

Yep, we halved. Had you won, it would have won Buda for your team.

Best allow an extra few minutes when travelling between locations. Welsh roads and those in the border lands between England and Wales have a tendency to be frequented by battered old Land Rovers towing trailers, large tractors, regrettably no longer those of the ‘Little Red’ variety, and quad bikes with sheepdogs riding pillion. And they all usually seem to take a viscous delight in holding-up visitors to the area! They also tend not to be the best when it comes to signalling an intended change of route or direction.
Enjoy! :)

For those fortunate few who are able to make this, the weather forecast looks fabulous.  Looking forward to catching up at Welshpool in the morning
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

The draw was the best result IMO as players from both teams played outstanding golf  ;D

Many thanks to Sean for organising a wonderful weekend of golf at Welshpool and Kington. The overseas contingent was sadly missed but we made the most of it over a couple of fabulous and intriguing courses.

Jayne enjoyed herself immensely despite being the only lady present. She also remained undefeated, contributing massively to our half against Giles and Conrad at Welshpool and overseeing the dismantling of Tony and David in our game at Kington. The highlight was her two (net zero) at the par 3 5th!

She's already asking about next year. I somehow don't think she'll be carrying as many shots by then!

A fantastic weekend.

Welshpool was great fun but, as advertised, extremely hilly.  Some really good golf there but a couple of holes that just felt like a hike up the hill (3 and 4).  Obviously my enjoyment of the course was improved enormously by recording the best Stableford score of the morning, to see the North take an early lead, albeit a slime one, that was never relinquished.  Two convincing wins for the North in the afternoon's matches.

Kington was every bit as good a host course for BUDA as I had thought it would be.  It's easy to assume that Kington is all quirk but, in fact, there's some really, really excellent golf there.  It calls for intelligent play and deft touch but offers the opportunity for heroic shots, too.  The greens were, without any doubt, the best greens I have putted on this year, firm, quick (really quick) and incredibly true.

A few highlights:  Tony's eagle (net albatross) at Kington's 8th in our match on Saturday morning.  Gregor driving the 17th at Welshpool and then not only carrying a driver onto the 18th at Kington into the wind but holding it there, too (shame about the 3 putt).  Lighthouse Bill's 4 birdies as he and I demolished Conrad and Robin yesterday (and they played pretty well).  Fin making three birdies in the last two holes at Kington yesterday (the first two matches were over by then and both groups played 18 twice).

One final thought about Kington's 18th.  We all know that The Yank thinks it's the best 18th hole in golf and I wouldn't argue with him.  But is it also true that the view from the clubhouse, watching tee shots from the 18th tee is as enjoyable a place to drink a beer and watch players finish as there is anywhere?

Both clubs were incredibly hospitable and the cost of the trip (5 rounds of golf, bacon rolls and sandwiches and chips and Welshpool, soup and sandwiches then sandwiches and chips at Kington for £122) must make it the best value golf trip I have ever been on!

Thanks to Sean for all his efforts in making this happen.  My only regret is that so many couldn't make the trip because of this damn virus.

Many thanks for organising Sean. Organising always requires a bunch of time and effort and thought so well done.
Shame that due to Covid so many usual participants and others who wished to attend this year weren't able to attend. Next year hopefully.
Unfortunate that elder son and heir and I weren't able to be a wickedly wonderful Welshpool but Kington yesterday was wonderful. Played it many times before but yesterday was the first time I'd played it in a wind from the opposite to the prevailing direction which made things more interesting.
Great company and craic as ever.
