The Golf Architecture Haiku
« on: October 28, 2003, 12:25:31 AM »
Tommy_Naccarato's recent post about original books by our esteemed GCA brethren has inspired me to write my own book.  Regrettably, I'm a little short on time.  Therefore, I think I'll limit my investment to the shortest legitimate literature on the planet: the haiku.

You know--the old 5-syllable, 7-syllable, 5-syllable unrhymed poem designed by the most efficient people on the planet.

Better yet, I should construct the book using the most favored method in academia--serving as editor of far more clever people.  Therefore, I submit to you my book; i.e., the posts following this one!   ;D

Special consideration will be awarded to people designing their haiku unconventionally; e.g., a 7-5-5, rhyming, or invoking the most jibes at fellow GCAers.

(The editor reserves the right to modify your haikus and otherwise make fun of you.)

Okay Carlyle,
I'll bite....

Haiku #1:
Five, Seven and Five,
Just my opening Three,
In the Medal Round.

Haiku #2:
Sun, Rain, Wind, Hail, Snow,
Elemental Golf Daily,
On the Scottish Links.

Haiku #3:
Grooves meet Dimples Hard,
Sphere flies into Hazy Blue,
Green receives Softly.

I could get into this....

Martin
The White River runs dark through the heart of the Town,
Washed the people coal-black from the hole in the ground.

Is Haiku one of them oriental states of mind or acts? I never did trust any of that oriental stuff ever since I heard Hari Kari and Kamakazis were some kind of Godly thing over there in them furin countries. But what the hell, I always can look on the bright side and find the positives in most anything--at least they're population control in a sort of global sense!  ;)

3iron in the wind
land short - bound up to the hole
skyline green, no fear

wrinkled like the Shar-Pei's neck
land that harkens back
