they seem very different and the scores are higher, but look at Sung Kang,Brooks Koepka , Adam Scott and a few others including Speith. What does that mean? Are you surprised? Caveat both played softer than intended.

It means that guys playing at the top of their games, will generally play well, no matter the venue.

This discussion ended when Koepka won at a softer than expected Erin Hills,

followed by another Koepka win at a widened, then narrowed--- firmer/faster/deader-slower- firmer/faster/deader , slower/ softer Shinnecock (the best manipulation the USGA could come up with on short notice-to be fair, they had an outbreak of perfect weather)

The icing on the cake was winning at Bellrieve after a lot of rain, then at a super tough Bethpgage in windy conditions.

It’s a game I just can’t even comprehend. I was never long but certainly not short. I remember hitting a pretty good drive on the first hole that I needed to hit left center to have a good look at the green around the dogleg. Watching Brooks hit driver over the corner to 50 yards is just something I wouldn’t have thought possible.

8000 is still not enough given 7000 was appropriate in 1950
One at Bethpage has become a very goofy starting hole at a major(it was very downwind today)

272 won in 2019 at Bethpage at 7450 yards.

274 won at Oak Hill in 1980 at 6980 yards.  Won by Jack.

I thought Sun Kane was interesting: He wins the Nelson after some stress but I thought the wide fairways helped. I figured the narrow, long Bethpage would eat him alive. He finished top 7. Probably says a lot about confidence. It would be interesting to see them tee it up at a muni with slightly shaggy greens and no tournament set up. Bet the leader board would be similar.
