Very refreshing to hear a tour pro discuss the things Geoff was discussing. It doesn't seem like many of the pros prefer to have to think about those things during tournament play. It will be fun watching them play a course that forces them to.
TF looks really good.
We were talking about this very thing earlier today while playing our very wet course (1.5" rain yesterday, after heavier rains last week). TF reportedly got 2" yesterday and the weather forecast doesn't offer hope of the course firming up at all.
I think that we sell the abilities of Tour pros short in determining the best course of play and executing the required shots. It really is not a chess match for these guys- they are way past most us on the learning curve and are masters at controlling their ball.
I watched Geoff's clips and saw a lot of Rossie in them. For example, on the short par 4 #5, in my three plays, I've been long of the green on my drive, on the green, and in the second bunker short right (par, bogie, birdie, respectively). My short game is not good, but none of the second shots terrified me. The hole certainly does not compare to Riviera's #10, IMO. Ditto for the short par 3 #8, or the mid-length par 3 #17. Unless the winds pick up and really gust, my bet is that the winner will shoot a very low score and these three holes will play among the easiest within their par type.
