Hanse & Woods to design 2 Hawaii courses
« on: April 04, 2019, 03:03:17 AM »
In Oahu, Woods will design the North Course at Oahu's Mākaha Valley Resort, while Hanse will handle the property's South Course. No timing on either course's opening was provided. This part of Pacific Links which is a network of affiliated and reciprocal clubs includes more than 400 properties located in 37 countries around the world.

If we are ever going to have a contest with the "No Laying Up" guys, this is it!

GCA Architect, Left - No Laying Up Architect, Center - Guy Paying for Everyone to Play His Course One Time, Right

Hopefully the courses will look better than the 1980's design of that office with the drawn shades!! :)

Looks like there is already a couple of courses in this location.  Are they going to level em and rebuild?

I haven't gone over to play there yet.  It's a tough drive, the area isn't the nicest and I've heard the place is limping along.  They only have 18 there now.  There has been talk about changes for awhile.  In 2016 it was announced they were going to go to 27 holes and Norman would do the work - obviously didn't happen.

Maybe there is lots of new money going into the place, it would need it.

Looks like there are very few modifications to the holes themselves.

7,300 yards and par 71? Is Tiger trying to steal the Sony Open or something? Who needs that much golf course?

It's a Chinese client, and they always ask for a tournament course.  It's actually amazing that they accepted a par-71 design instead of par-72, but Mr. Du is a big fan of Pacific Dunes, so maybe he is a bit more enlightened on that side of things.

I doubt they will get the Sony Open, though, as long as Sony is the sponsor.  I'm told that the chairman of Sony has a house adjacent to Waialae C.C.

I wonder if this will really happen. There were stories about this back in 2016, http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/30868492/major-redevelopment-plan-promises-to-bring-jobs-to-makaha-valley/

So will this be like Streamsong, build it and people will come? Or will it be more like, Gleneagles or the Castle Course in Scotland, people will come and play it once?

I would say this course is in the same likelihood of Wood's Mexico course, Punta Brava, https://www.gringogazette.com/?q=content/punta-brava-golf-course-update#sthash.PMrew67m.dpbs

I can't see the entire story without a subscription, but this link states that the parent company is selling the site of the proposed Tiger Woods design.  This project may never get off the ground.

I had a look at that project; it was going to be a very expensive rebuild, and it still had its limitations.  But if everyone here chips in $25,000, maybe you could get it done.  :-X

Pacific Links filed for bankruptcy protection.

Yes, I predicted that these courses would not get built. Not a surprise at all.
