« on: February 23, 2019, 08:12:07 AM »

Robert Stanley Weir was a feature writer for Golf Illustrated and Golf Mag (USGA) for 23 years! Recently discovered his writings and wrote about it for Golf Canada. His first article is history, description and photos of 1st golf course in North America called 'Pioneer Golf In America'. Weir was a lawyer, judge, poet and literary writer. He wrote lyrics to National Anthem, 'O Canada'. Canada's Bernard Darwin?

Thanks Jeff, I love his late 19th/early 20th century prose. Remarkable man. He was taken out of school at 11 to work as an office boy for $1.50/week because his father thought RSW was wasting his abilities in subjects he was already proficient in. Later convinced by a family friend to send RSW to teachers college at 14 he became a teacher at 15, then a principal at 19 in large public school in Montreal.
