Sven:

As a proud Jumbo, I found this fascinating and have sent it along to many alumni, including the current golf coach who wishes he had a practice loop on campus. I can assure you that there was no trace of the six holes 40 years ago, and today your research is the only remaining evidence. Noticed that J.C.M. Tillinghast was on the construction team. No relation that I can determine. ;)

The best line in the Globe article: "The landscape gardening in  connection with the links will do much to bring out the architectural character of the new chemical laboratory"

Thanks.

All the photos are from:

No more from the Tufts course, but there are some of Quaker Hill CC from the E.R. Murrow Collection.

Sven/Jim,

What a find! Who knew? As a parent of two Jumbos, one of whom is still matriculating there, I’m fascinated by this. The freshman dorm that my current student resided in last year sits in the area of the first tee and fifth and sixth holes (north end of the property). I wonder when the course disappeared due to expansion of the university buildings. Next time there, I may need to walk around to see if there are any remnants. There could be some near the oval/football field and adjacent soccer field near Powderhouse Square.

James,

The Jumbo reference is appreciated :)

I used to play basketball over there with a former Senator from Massachusetts. He was NOT on your team :)

It's all the same ballpark though.   ;D

Glad you liked it Mike, and I hope the family is all doing well.

Doug,

Aerials show the course was completely gone by 1962. Structures started appearing on it in the '60s, and by '95 it looks completely transformed, and much the same as it does on a new aerial.
