Shadow Mountain GC (1958, Gene Sarazen) in Palm Desert, CA
« on: November 25, 2018, 04:35:19 PM »
This 18 hole semi-private course has been struggling to survive but there is hope:

At just 5,375 yards from the back tees, Shadow Mountain might not be a course for long hitters or low-handicappers looking for a strong challenge. Instead, the course focuses on older golfers looking to still have fun in the game, younger or novice players and couples hoping to enjoy the club in their retirement years.

Thanks for the update, Steve. I was there with a member several years ago but after 6-7 holes she had to leave. I had to leave too. Little of the experience remains, which is not meant as a criticism.

For some reason my curiosity was spiked and I checked out their website.  It's not a 9 holer - it a full (if a little cramped) 18!

Played the Island Country Club in Marco Island several times, which was Sarazen's home club. It originally was a modest little country club that felt like you were in the Caribbean, but as southwest Florida real estate boomed it now looks and feels like a high end club, and renovated several times by Arnold Palmer's group and recently Kipp Schulties.

They have a neat memorial statue to him. If its life sized, and appears to be, its amazing how little he was.
