Wynn Las Vegas plans to bring back golf course

They have asked Tom Fazio to rebuild the golf course which has been shut down since last December.

Another interesting tidbit according to the article.

"Company executives discovered that removing the golf course resulted in some loyal customers going elsewhere. Maddox estimated the company lost $10 million to $15 million of domestic casino business from people coming in for golf trips who decided to go elsewhere."

Was just out with a buddy who lives in the high rise east of the Wynn, facing the course ... he said the grass is definitely being watered again!

Easiest sales pitch Fazio ever had. Invest a 100 million now and I'll bring you $200 - 300 million back in the next 20 years.  ;D

It was already a pretty tight squeeze, wasn't it? So now they need to reconfigure the course on even less land?

How much money has Fazio made between Shadow Creek and the Wynn?

He built Shadow Creek and then a complete rebuild 4 or 5 years ago.  He built the Wynn golf course and now another rebuild.

Over/Under on Fazio fee: $10 million.

Before Steve Wynn was forced out, I would listen to the earnings calls with great interest as he described what was going to replace the golf course.  No one can conceive and execute a vision better than that guy. Part of me is sad to never see what the heck he was talking about building on that site....a sort of adult amusement park around water.  Maybe for the best. If it had worked, other golf course owners might have followed suit! Without Wynn, no surprise the current management punted.

As much as I could care less about paying a premium for a golf course view it beats the hell out of seeing Eurotrash in Speedos.

JK,

I heard you're pretty good with the cards, but I figured you more of an Atlantic City guy...

P.S. If you're looking at the guys at the pool, you might be doing it wrong John...not that there's anything wrong with that if that's what floats your boat  ;)

Kalen,

To paraphrase Bogey's Voltaire: tis much more prudence to cover two women, tho' actually hotties, than to view one man sporting a "Mr. Turk".

One reason I stay at the Wynn as opposed to the Encore is the proximity to the Beach Club. It's a sewer of depravity. I have to say I was triggered while walking to mass with my wife, a Catholic Cathedral is adjacent to the Wynn, when a young lady visiting the Beach Club asked us if we wanted to party. Shocked, shocked I tell you. Fortunately I found solace in the depth of my prayer that evening.

Barney,

Great story...and I thought you was just funning me, but on Google Maps, sure enough there it is. I think for stuff like this in Vegas...Chruchill's famous quote certainly applies: "It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key."

P.S.  I'm not a believer myself, but that cathedral sure is nice looking on the inside!

I am reminded of a slick, self-dealing "fiduciary" who went to mass nearly every day but cost my client $20-$30 Million by secretly promoting the interests of the other side on a complicated sale.  Hopefully his prayers included forgiveness which a generous God might grant.   Too bad that Wynne will not get a second chance.  I don't know too much about his casinos and hotels, but Shadow Creek was magical in ways even exceeding Las Vegas.

Lou,

Yes, I was praying that the young lady would be waiting on us after mass. Perhaps your friend was praying for forgiveness. Sometimes you may as well pray for a hole-in-one.

It's baaaack ! Will reopen next week!

Wynn Las Vegas will debut its newly re-imagined golf course, which will be one of the most expensive places to play in America, on Oct. 11. The $550-a-round luxury experience will include lithium battery-powered golf carts, caddies and even Rolls-Royce cars that can fetch its high-rolling, off-property guests. It will also be the only golf course on the Strip, a feature that Wynn President Marilyn Spiegel says sets the casino resort apart from every other in Vegas.

Shadow Creek is only 20 minutes away.  Which course are they referring to?

“The next closest good golf course is 45 minutes away,” Spiegel said. “We know there’s a strong relationship between golf and gambling [in the casino], and a lot of gambling goes on between players on the golf course.”

I prefer helium powered cart girls, being Vegas and all.

I thought Tom Fazio had retired and Congaree was going to be his last course?

I suspect maybe they are using his name perhaps and he had minimal or no involvement.  I could be wrong but I too thought he had retired.

Maybe more to the point, you can quibble about whether Bali Hai is a "good" golf course, but it's still open and it's very definitely on the Strip

I don't know what course the CEO is referring to but Shadow Creek, Dragon Ridge & Rio Secco are less than 30 minutes away  from Wynn according to Mapquest. They can be classified as " quality" by most pundits.

I’ve been to Las Vegas exactly once, 21 years on spring break in college. I can safely say I have zero interest in going back, regardless of golf options. The city holds nothing of interest to me.

I wonder if the Wynn Country Club restaurant is still located in the same space? I once ran into Coach K and his wife in there after my round. The staff told me on a subsequent visit that they visit the Wynn regularly.
