Tiger vs Phil @ Shadow Creek

Cant tell you how excited I am to watch this...and Shadow Creek being such a rare venue to see on TV...would love to hear others thoughts... does the course favor either player?

If this heralds a return of the "Shell's WWoG" format I couldn't be more pleased. I love watching the old games from the 60s.

The 90's reincarnation was fine - spoiled for me however by the abandonment of matchplay and the introduction of 18 hole strokeplay games.  Matchplay is by far the superior format for such challenge matches, with all the additional tactics and dynamics involved.

What is the format of the Woods - Mickelson challenge?

It will be " Pay Per View" and....Mickelson said the format would be match play, and details are being worked out that would allow for various challenges during the match, such as longest drive, closest to the hole, longest putt and closest out of a bunker.

So it's matchplay.

That makes it interesting. I suspect that matchplay favours Mickelson...

Which tactic was that? The off-camera improvements of lie or the glossing over holes worth of play, supposedly for TV time?

Bit surprised by that. Sure I would have paid for that...when they were in thier primes.  Will be interesting to see how many buys they get for it.

I have absolutely no excitement for this at all.  Silly season is bad enough.  Can't wait to hear all the "experts" opine on how this is good for the game of golf.

Couldn't agree more Double D.  And then they expect me to pay an extra $50 or so to watch it?  Absurd...

Have them both drop a bag with $10 mil of their own cash on the first tee before the match, then I'd watch.
Loser gets $0, and has to carry the winner's clubs to the parking lot after the match.

I would add that the loser has to wear Fred Funk's skirt while lugging clubs to parking lot.

They'd both still make tens of millions on the TV rights.

I really just want to see Phil put Tiger's clubs in the trunk, and watch as Tiger gives him $5, for the effort.

Would have meant something when they were both 1-2 in the world and still had that disdain for each other.

Now?  Just a couple of older legends riding off into the sunset doing a huck and shuck...

P.S. I know its $10 Mill and all, but Tiger is worth about $750 Mill, Phil about half that.  The $10 Mill doesn't really mean anything to these guys.  I think a non monetary bet would have been more interesting...

I watch the majors somewhat, the Ryder Cup a bit, Presidents Cup less so, and other events strictly for the course. I know I'm weird like that, but pro golf has mostly lost me, which is really saying something bad about the pro game, at least on TV and as an entertainment option.

Wish I could give credit where it's due, but I saw someone point out on Twitter that that the events that seem to generate some of the most interest are those with the least amount of money on the line ... Ryder Cups, US Am, NCAAs, etc. Maybe that's because match play and the Tiger/Phil thing will still work, but I'm skeptical.

I would just as soon see a match between Norman and Faldo. I probably wouldn't watch Phil vs. Tiger if they were playing at my club.....for free.

For me it's about seeing Shadow Creek.  My favorite Shell WWoG was the episode between Littler and Nelson because its the only way I'm, probably, ever going to see Pine Valley.  I played Shadow Creek last year it was roughly an $850 day.  I get to re-live those holes for $20'ish.  Worth it to me.

Dan,

The Crump Cup happens every year at PV, if you're goal is to see it as opposed to playing it, which yes is a whole different animal.  I think admission is reasonable too.  ;)

TNT/TBS is handling the broadcast for the PPV which means to me it will be on the network eventually and since it is an exhibition I can wait.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Kalen, you've posted four times just in this thread, which you claim is about a topic you're not interested in. Are you seriously also insisting that you have better things to do Thanksgiving weekend than watch a match on a Doak 8 between the two best players of the last 25 years?

I enjoy watching golf and I would like to see Tiger and Phil going at it, but the 10 million kinda ruins it for me. I certainly don't want to pay to watch it. They should score well at SC. I wonder if there will be any changes to the course.

I really wish they would convert the PGA Championship back to match play.  Just think how great a match like this would be if it had a major riding on it.  That would mean 10x more to each of these guys than cash.

The official "poster" tweeted by the PGA Tour this week shows Tiger in a follow through...while holding a LEFT-handed driver.  Might be smart to circle back with the intern who photoshopped the image.

For those that have played Shadow Creek, will there be any room for spectators, corporate viewing, any of that?  I'm assuming they'll just rope the course and have a small number of people walking along with the players.

How long can the course get?

Are any of the par fives unreachable for these two guys?

Will they ever hit a long iron?

I'm guessing we'll see some recovery shots, as both have some wild moments off the tee.
