I’m not the biggest fan of heavily bunkered courses so loving Hollywood wasn’t because David Greene is a great host. It was because of the unabashed love for Travis exhibited throughout.

It has a strong and varied set of par fours.

Yes they spoke Travis to me. I suggested that Travis was the first architect to find LSD.
When I played Westchester I felt that the built up features on hilly land was jarring but it works wonderfully here.

Hollywood GC hosted the Met Open last August. I started a thread about it back then,  but I can't find it now.

Here is a nice video about the event. The tour of the course begins after the first 2 minutes.

Yes, I worked for the tennis pro at HGC for 4 summers in the 1960's. Then one summer I prepped the clay courts every morning. Over 50 years ago. Never got to play the golf course. ;)

Mike:

Believe it or not, the club kept us about 25 bunkers short of a full restoration at Hollywood.

The Travis greens are incredible and allow so much creativity in the form of backstops, shelfs and internal contouring. RGD's consult and restoration implementation along with the membership's desire to continue along a path to restore the course to as close to original as possible is a winning formula. Hollywood is as fun it gets.

Michael,

Did you know that William Flynn did the construction at Westchester for Travis?

Mike,

That shows that Flynn can follow direction. He probably thought “ this is one course I don’t have to worry about being rated higher than mine”. ;D
