Talk about Redans had me thinking about this little gem in northwest PA (east of Erie). The green is the best, with the Biarritz swale, a bunker tucked on the left side of the swale, and Redan kickplate on the right.

RE: Road Hole green~Yes, with the green twisted clockwise to line of play, about 30 degrees. Add swale.


RE: See that course~Coudersport was home of the Rigas family, founders and defrauders of Adelphia Cable. Rees was set to build a high-end public course for them outside town during the 90s, but then the fan hit the sh!t and Rigas 3 went to prison.


RE: Quoge (pronounced kwOUg...short O) I was by it on Route 27 in the early part of the week, but could not stop by. Ian Andrew could speak to the hole which you reference. Would like to see Quogue one day.

David Kidd likes that theme -- he built one one his course in Nicaragua, Guacalio de la Isla, and another at Rolling Hills in LA. I think 'Redanarritz' is the best name  :)

It's definitely one of the quirkiest I've played.  I had a client in Coudersport (not Adelphia), so I spent several weeks there every summer for 7 years.=.  I cursed this particular hole (and many others) on my first play, but came to adore this course.  It's what I believe has been labelled "naive golf design" as it was pieced together in several iterations without much attribution to any known architects. Regardless of who designed it, they stumbled onto genius a few times (the 5th green is the most insanely contoured, yet tiny green I've played).   Lots of severely-sloped fairways and significant elevation changes, but plenty of fun with drive-able par fours and risk/reward par fives. 


I have many pictures of this course, but they were all in the film camera days. You'll have fun if you make it there (or curse my name for suggesting it).  Either way, be sure to stop at Erway's for the best home-cooked meals & pies (restaurant is attached to the farmer's market).
