Saunton West Video
« on: May 15, 2018, 03:51:19 PM »
I have grown strangely addicted to these videos which are a bit of an acquired taste.  Mark Crossfield is a very prolific internet golf teacher who makes these videos playing courses all over the world with his playing companions, two of which are club pros and the third carries a 7 handicap who fights to straighten a powerful hook.

Despite their rough nature the videos show real people attacking golf courses that range from the very basic to the best in the world.  If the West is the 2nd best course at Saunton I need to add it to my bucket list:

I believe that the West at Saunton has had a bunch of work done on it over the winter. I can’t recall where I heard this but I recall something about tees being moved, holes re-angled, more bunkering. Anyone throw some more light on matters?

The reason he is so prolific as you say is that he is sponsored by a large golf travel company and the guy thats fighting the hook works for said company...

Mackenzie & Ebert did the work. Haven't seen much about it outside of twitter. I have only played the East and that's been too long ago already.

The videos are good fun and Saunton West looks terrific. Think the main emphasis in recent months has been to lengthen it. They recently did the Turkey resort courses of Balek which were frankly universally dreadful. Even the pros were losing shed loads of balls.

I have been playing both Saunton courses on consecutive days a couple of times a year for most of the last few years. I have always scored lower on the East even though it’s longer on the card. The West might be shorter in yardage but imo plays tougher. A strong set of par-3’s, of which there are 5 rather than the 3 on the East, may be one reason.
Looking forward to playing the upgraded West the next time I’m at Saunton.

Sure looks like a fun golf course. Love the blind shot right away on the first hole.

It does look incredibly silly to see these guys driving around such a beautiful place in bright red golf carts.

I find that jarring as well.  Camera needs might justify their use.
