Per a couple of sources at the resort last week (when these photos were taken) they were installing irrigation over the routing and burning off gorse. It made for a smoky round at Old Mac. We enjoyed the summer prevailing winds, as you can see.

Ugh!  I've always been curious about the Sheep ranch and I have wanted to play it as much as the other Bandon courses.  I think I've missed my opportunity for it.  I was kind of curious to play it because I have dreams of an awesome and quirky golf course across the street from Hooper GC where I live in Walpole, NH.  I"m dreaming years and maybe decades in advance but I cant help but picture a truly amazing fun course with stunning 200 degree views

After reading the article, the Sheep Ranch info looks really neat, but I think the biggest news might be that Keiser and Co are considering this the last course for Bandon.  As many of our favorite resorts continue to expand, even well established ones like Pinehurst, it's interesting that this will be Bandon's final course.


After this, full expansion efforts go into Sand Valley, and/or a someday future third course for Cabot.  Will be interesting to see if "Dream Golf Resorts" eventually finds new locations in the upcoming decades.  Great stuff to think about!

So, Par 71, I gather it looks like this?

4,5,4,5,4,4,3,4,4 = 37




#12 looks like it is mostly the old opener, played from parking lot tee.


18 ought to be a stern finisher if indeed a par 4 to a green up in the hill.  I could imagine maybe have #1 as a par 4 and #18 as a par 5 too, I might have those backwards.

So, for now, there are no official numbers to the holes. But there’s a good chance they decide on one set order before opening day, which will be in the summer of 2020. What will never be on the Sheep Ranch are bunkers. NO BUNKERS.
“Ben and I talked about it a long time ago,” says Coore. “Robert Hunter, in his book called The Links, back in the 1920s, said there would one day be a site with such interesting undulations, sand bunkers wouldn’t be necessary.”

The catalyst for the concept was Coore, who had walked the terrain on several bad weather days. The sand in the few bunkers that were out there had all blown away. The old abandoned bunkers only piqued his interest.

"I said, 'seed them,'" says Coore. “With some wispy fescue. They’ll enhance the visual presentation, keep balls from going off cliffs and it helps any maintenance issues.”

So, coming soon to Bandon Dunes, a Sheep Ranch redux, with an actual routing, reimagined greens, cliff-side cape holes that run north and south of Five-Mile Point, which is where you’ll play to a double green. There will be tees that go one way, and that same tee might go the other way. But in no way will you ever be playing from a sand bunker.
