I had been seeing posts that Oak Hill East was going to be a full-on restoration ... which I didn't think was possible given the space constraints around the old 6th hole.
In your interview Andrew clarifies that the project will be a "sympathetic restoration" with a hole much like the old 6th behind today's 4th, while others "will be framed in a Ross style to fit the modern game". It looks as if his definition of restoration is yet another interpretation of the term.
I have heard that Andrew Green has asked the club for permission to remove 2,000 trees and last I heard they were "thinking it over. "Not sure that would be enough, to be honest.
Also, the "new" 15th hole will not be anything like the original Ross hole; they are going to fill-in the pond right of the green and the hole will be very similar to the third@ Wannamoisett, around 140 yards or so with a small green and deep bunkers in front. The green site and tee will be where they are now, give or take. The original 15th green was left of the current green, on top of the hill as you look from the tee.
Also, the 18th hole will not be going back to the original, unfortunately. The original green (about 25-30 yards behind where the green is now) was one of the great greens on the course but was sadly destroyed because of the need for bleachers for four days every 10-12 years.
Nice to hear Andrew Green say nice things about the west course, a course that I personally love but seems to get very little respect on this site.
