To answer Mike's question, and to agree with Tony and Mark, sometimes there can be great satisfaction in digging in and taking the game as far as you can even though there may be a point early on where you know you're not going to win.

Duncan

Tim and I are looking to play our game on the 9th at his home course (and my home from home course  ;) ). No doubt Tim will be in contact with you shortly thereafter to arrange the final.

This.  If I play really badly and my opponent really well, I'll take the drubbing that ensues.

Fully agreed, Mark.  My 1980's threesomes at Dornoch had the rule that anybody who gets 2 holes ahead any body else has to give a stroke on every hole until equilibrium was achieved.  Everybody won at the 19th...... ;)

Best of luck to both of you on the 9th. Have a great match.

Where are you playing? I don't even know where Tim lives.

I don't know if 'two' can make for a tradition, but both the finals will have been played over NBWL.

I very much look forward to my first visit to North Berwick, but I'll pass on it being against either Mr Carlton or Mr Gallant in the final of such a prestigious competition! The home advantage offered would be a little daunting.

Whoever prevails in the semi final at NBWL, I suggest Silloth over the festive period for the final. A great venue, and geographically ideal.

And only thirty quid!  ;D

Duncan,

We had a wonderful match today. Despite some VERY ropey golf early on, the match was nip and tuck heading into the last few. I managed to eek out a win on the 17th and am very glad to represent Scotland in the finals!

Niall and I were chatting and Silloth would be a fantastic final, and if ok, I thought I could jump across to Glasgow and Niall and I could drive down together and meet you there so we have a three-ball? Looking at the diary, it may have to wait until mid-January, but we can pick up on dates.

Looking forward to the game!

Based on this suggestion you're a lucky sod that the semi went the way it did... are you not aware that Mr Carlton was for years a Silloth member?

Well done Tim,

If there is still a spare berth at Silloth when you get a date fixed I'd likely be interested in tagging along, Silloth has been on my hit list for a while and this seems like a perfect excuse :)

I was fully aware of this.  I've played with Niall at Silloth. 😉

Well done Tim and hard luck Niall. Maybe Boony might like to come up to Silloth with me and we could have a simultaneous 3rd place play-off!

Keep me posted on dates.

Ian,

Sorry - our posts crossed.

If there are more people interested in a game at Silloth why don't we open it up and have a meet?

My mate Adam from Reddish would definitely be up for it. I suspect FBD would be as well.

Seeing a few emails and posts flying around, I think this would be fantastic to open it up and have a bit of a UK get together. I'll coordinate with Duncan on a mutual agreeable date and we'll post to see who might be free?

Apologies Duncan, it was 'only' the semi final -  and it may have been better if my comment had remianed microscopically small!

Due to having lost several posts while composing I developed the habit of writing them in Word and then using cut and paste. It doesn't work at all with the most recent software.  Ran please note.

Tell me about it!

When I did the course tour of Manchester GC I thought I'd avoid the risk of losing my work halfway though by doing it in Word first.

Nah!

Half the text still came out microscopically small and even when I'd laboriously gone through it all making it legible, for some reason it had all turned itself into a hyperlink.

This board software is terrible!

Yes very well done Tim, a deserved winner and great fun to play against.

If Tim and Duncan can sort out the dates, and we get a good idea of how many would be up for a Silloth trip, I'll speak to Alan Oliver the secretary and sort out tee times. There is also the suggestion that some folk might be up for making it a two day trip to justify the travel. Maybe play Seascale on the other day ? I suggest we maybe look into that once Tim and Duncan have sorted out the date for the main event.

Niall

ps. Mike, once again thanks for keeping the "scoreboard" ticking over.

We're looking at Sat 12th or Sunday 13th Jan.

Silloth are showing ample availability on both days - Seascale less so, particularly on the Sunday.

Thanks Duncan

If you and Tim can agree which dates (and time) suit you best for Silloth I'll start a separate thread to gauge numbers and then book accordingly. We can worry about a second course/day thereafter.

Niall

ps. I'd add that while the website says there are spare tee times they will likely be available and get booked up by members 2 or 3 weeks ahead so we don't want to cut it too fine.

Cheers Niall,

Tim and I have agreed on Sunday 13th.

The tee is currently free from 11.40 onwards according to Silloth's BRS system.

https://www.brsgolf.com/sillothonsolway/visitor_day.php?d_date=2019-01-13&nav_date=2019-01-13&course_id=1

That gives us up to 4 tee times before the 4 hour twilight cut-off.
