Jon, Tim, Mike:

Mackenzie conceived of the 10th playing to the current greensite and created plans for it (as well as the modern day 11th), but the club didn’t own the land at the time.

By the time the club got the land and implemented the holes, Dr Mac had divorced his wife, whose family were central to the club, and so was persona non grata.

See map. The envisioned changes are mapped in the upper right corner.

Mike,

It is very possible our paths crossed as we visited Avalon at least two different summers during our annual week-long July 4th vacation in Brigantine.

Only if one of you played through the other...:)

Sean,

Thanks for posting that map.   I took a picture of it during my visit but didn't have it handy.   It's very, very cool.

Jeff,

Some tall, rangy kid kept hitting into our group behind us.   I would have pasted him but he was bigger than me.

I think there's a bit of a distinction to be made between direct copies of Augusta holes, most commonly Amen Corner, and the Doppelganger holes.

7th at World Woods Rolling Oaks:1st at ANGC is a doppelganger. The best angle is in the middle of the bunker right of the fairway and the farther left you hit it off the tee the more uphill and awkward the approach becomes.

Any candidates that mimic the 5th, 7th, 14th, or 17th?

13 at TPC Sawgrass does a nice imitation of 16 ANGC.
