With all the heather, it looks like it could be in Surrey.

Nice find and share David! I played de Pan in early October and was blown away. One of the those courses where each hole got better and better. The finishing 5 holes are very memorable including with 16 & 17 being great par 4's.

It was the first course I played there and was tough for all the other courses to live up to de Pan. All the courses I played were great by Royal Hague was also very special. Never seen a property quite like that one. But de Pan ranks as one of my favourite courses I've played to date.

Thanks for posting David. De Pan is one of the world's best kept secrets. The flyover is great but what you can't see are all the humps and bumps and it's all perfectly natural. It's all on top of pure sand. The video was taken late in the year and the course looks very green. That's due to a significant amount of rainfall.

A few years back we had the Buda here and several GCA'ers came to see it. I'm very happy to say the club has made leaps and bounds since then. In many areas, they are slowing working on clearing out trees and bushes for obvious reasons, something very tough to do in that area as the trees are sacred. They are also working towards a long term plan that does everything right.

Imagine my joy in being able to play the course this last summer like this:

Not once but several times. Some of the most fun I've ever had on a golf course.

For me this is one of Colt's very best routings and sits right there with Royal Portrush, Pine Valley, Sunningdale and Swinley. What might make it even better is the crazy natural sandy rolling humps and bumps throughout the course, the uniqueness of the holes, the brilliance of the routing on such a tiny property and the fact you can play it in 2.5 hours walking.

On top of that it's 20 minutes from my home.  ;D

Nice looking course, but they have mucho more work to do do with tree clearance.  Holes like 6, 7, 10, 11 etc should have much wider corridors to showcase all the wing features.

Looks a real cracker.
Viewing, in a Northern Hemisphere December, David’s photos showing the burnt off beige fairways makes me look forward to next summer.

Wow! That is '06 Open Championship Hoylake brown!

I do agree some of the holes need less trees. 7 and 10 come to my mind as extremely tight tee balls.

Sean/Jordan,

7 and 10 are both really short par 4's. From the back tees I can't hit more than hybrid there. Sure they could remove some trees but for such short holes that are really about placement off the tee I don't have a feeling the trees on these holes present a huge problem.

They are two of my favorite holes on the course in fact.

If the trees aren't a problem why are they there disrupting views of the terrific features?  If we are buying into the whole architecture is part art deal, then sometimes it is important to treat the golf canvas as something other than simply a playing field.  We can disagree about what makes for good aesthetics in golf design, but what we certainly shouldn't do is dismiss aesthetics.

Sean, we certainly agree that in order to get the best out of their property and create the best aesthetics, playing conditions etc etc they will need to remove a lot of trees. I'm just saying on these holes you have to really hit bad shots to have the trees affect the game.

Not even saying I couldn't do that because we know I can. Just saying IMO it looks worse than it feels when there.

Why don't you come over for a visit this year and find out for yourself. You are always invited.
