And so it was with its biggest annual event, the George A. Crump Memorial Tournament, better known as the Crump Cup. For years, it was the mysterious event that the most highly competitive mid-amateurs and seniors had heard about, the best of the "cocktail circuit" of tournaments held at the most exclusive clubs on the east coast--places like Seminole, Merion, National Golf Links of America, Fisher's Island, Garden City, and so on.

The finals of this year's Crump Cup is this Sunday, September 24.  Public can attend.  Gates open at 1 PM.

Thanks for sharing, Mike. I'm planning to attend this year for the first time, and this article has got me even more excited.


Can anyone suggest a public course that a single could play Sunday morning and still make it to PV by 1pm?  Based on suggestions from this forum, I'll be playing Lulu Country Club on Saturday.

Mark's suggestion of Riverwinds is good.  I think you could get a real early spot at Glen Mills and still get over there by 1ish.  Same with Scotland Run, Westwood, even Running Deer.

Atlantic City Country club is only 35-40 minutes away...
Woodcrest is usually in great shape as well

Seriously: if there are any editors from Golf or Digest or GolfWeek reading this, you should seriously consider hiring the writer/writers from amateurgolf.com who put this piece together.
He/she/they clearly understand how to write an engaging and informative article without assuming that their readers are idiots, or have the attention spans of a gnat.

Two past champions missed match play: Four-time champion Mike McCoy (W. Des Moines, IA) and Skip Berkmeyer (Town & Country, MO).

 They say that the field at the Crump Cup is so strong that one is likely to see USGA champions in the third flight. But two USGA champs fell out of match play altogether: McCoy and former U.S. Mid-Amateur champion Austin Eaton III (Lakeville, MN).

Randy Haag, a 2-time Crump winner and the finalist in the Senior flight this year, has a number of photos and videos of Pine Valley up on his website. But first you will have to read thru his (lengthy) description of the golf he played in the tournament there this year. ;)
