OT: Who's traveling where and when?
« on: August 15, 2017, 05:56:24 PM »
Two weeks ago I was arriving at Schiphol airport and by chance found out that a GCA friend was there at the exact same time on a layover. It was a great opportunity to catch up. Naturally we are a small niche of golf architecture enthusiasts and all around golf lovers but the amount this group travels is often quite extensive and I'm amazed how many people end up running into each other randomly which is pretty cool. However, it made me wonder how many near misses do we have when it would of been really cool to have a chance to grab a drink, dinner or even a round together.

Not everyone goes out and travels alone but I actually do it a lot for work and golf and I'm certain there are several others that do. I try to meet up with as many people as possible as that always greatly enhances the experience.

Would there be any ammunition this thread to list where you are going to be when in case you open to meeting another from the dojo in the same boat or perhaps even a local?

 8)  Last September we were checking out The Loop (Red) and noticed a single starting after us, never really pushing us and either wandering about or apparently hitting two balls etc., on a pretty quiet day... i thought, I wonder who's checking things out?  We said hello in the parking lot after finishing and later saw a post about playing the next day...

Yep, turns out it was gcc'er astavides.. should have created a thread once we had our plans set.. could have voiced and debated things for at least 3-4 hours that day... and solved some of the world's problems...

Your thread is a good one, especially since our paths crossed and we had a chance to say hello in Dornoch earlier this year.

I will be back in Dornoch from August 25 to September 17. If anyone is visiting the bonnie Highlands then they are certainly welcome to get in touch. Either PM me here or email me at: tcmnav@aol.com

Hi David, I'll be arriving at Schiphol Sept 23 and staying two nights, then on to Paris, Madrid/Granada, Italy two weeks, Munich, Vienna, Prague, and then not sure, but returning Schiphol for back half of RT.   50 days total - no golf clubs this time, just all the cultural things I can soak in.  Would love to meet you and have a pub and grub Sept 23/24 or Nov 10/11, if you are around.  IM me if you have time.
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

David,
Great idea. I ran into a GCA'er at my local club last week and thought what a small world.

8/20 I'll be playing at Yale Golf Course. From 8/21-8/25, I'll be up at Cabot Links/Cliffs with a group of buddies. I hear there's a nice distillery (Glenora) near the course.

David,

Thanks and yes indeed, even though Jon and I were a bit late getting to you it was wonderful you made the effort to come up to the club to see us and this is exactly my point here.

Hopefully we shall run into each other again soon.

As I think you know, Lavera and I are in Nairn, but tomorrow we're headed to Dornoch for a a week in your flat. Then we're moving to a B&B near Dornoch for 9 days, followed by another stretch in Golspie, leaving from Glasgow on Sept 11.

Thinking hard about Cabo in October.  How hard of a get is Diamante?

Also going to be back in MI sometime in the fall as well.

In the meantime, anyone looking for a game around Vail, CO drop me a line.
Don't play too much golf. Two rounds a day are plenty.

Where in Michigan?  Will you be near the upper peninsula by chance?

I imagine a few happenstance meetings of GCAers go something like this...

DD - I will be in PDX  then.

I am considering going down under to Tasmania and NZ this northern winter, but no firm plans, like booking a flight.

Definitely Crystal Downs and investigating others currently. The loop is on the list!

Padraig, are you thinking The Loop?

Steve, Yes I was thinking Greywalls, but I am on the injured list for unknown length of time, from injury today...

I also would love to see what Paul Albanese is up to in Escanaba with the new course associated with the casino and Sweet Grass.  I hear the second course is a few miles from Sweet Grass, however.
