I would redesign cart fees to $100 less your age.

Positively brilliant.  Maybe 80-age though?  I'm not charging an octogenarian 20 bucks for a cart, it's on me.

This is brilliant, 80-age.  Only problem is I think it's against the law?

Has anyone designed a par 2.5 course?  I'm thinking a 9-hole cool pitching/chipping course with no 'tee shot' over 50 yards.

AND, a design that is challenging for the accomplished golfer but easy and welcoming for the duffer.  Yeah, I know that may sound impossible!

Thoughts from the experts on the board?  I know Tom Doak's "Approach Course" at Shawnee is sort of like this, but my idea is much shorter holes.

The goofiest couple of things I've thought about involve bunkers.

The first one is to have a bunker within which there is an island, within which there is a bunker, within which there is an island...and so on. I wonder how far you can go with it. Just daft stuff.

I've also thought about designing a course on which the shape of the bunkers copies the outline of famous motor racing circuits from around the world. I've done Indianapolis...but then who hasn't!

Call it Zeno's Paradox bunker--it could go on ad infinitum.

Robert Trent Jones did experiment with building parallel, alternate par-3 holes to speed up play, on one or two courses back in the day, I believe.

That would probably work to speed play, no?

How about multiple tees sideways so 2-4 golfers can tee off on a hole at the same time?

Many years ago, playing Carnoustie, there was a hole with two tees, one on either side of the previous green.  Because our mixed group was falling behind, the women teed off on their tee to the right, simultaneously with the men on the left to save a few seconds.  (the distance difference from back to front tees wasn't very great back then)  I often wondered, with the current speed of play emphasis, if trying this on purpose would help the cause.

It would seem to work best if it was the second of two playing in about the same direction, but could work at other angles with careful placement. And, there would be the question of who takes the cart and who walks to the other tee.  It might offer some unusual golf bets, as winner of the previous hole gets to pick the next tee, selecting an angle that suits them better, or the closest walk? i.e., a slicer picks the right tee to fade the ball back to the fw?

It would be at the possible (but highly unlikely) that two balls collide in mid air. That actually happened to me in a High School golf match when I played from across the fairway at the same time as my team mate.

I have seen a few that go one level of that, no more.

Jim Engh does some pretty unique stuff, I'm sure some on here would call goofy.  While I like the wild and quirky nature of it, my only quibble is its repetitiveness liked the bowled greens, similar size bunkers, etc...but its no doubt very unusual and very fun in limited dosages.

I like it, 1/2 par holes are some of the best.  Shorty's (Brandon) and The Horse Course (The Prairie Club), are along these lines.
