Scottish Open back to Gullane in 2018 ?
« on: June 22, 2017, 09:53:10 AM »
There is a report in today’s Scotsman that there will be an announcement shortly that next years Scottish Open will be going back to Gullane and be played on the same composite course that Rickie Fowler won on last time.

The report goes on to mention the work by MacKenzie Ebert and that they were involved elsewhere on courses hosting the Open Championship. Would it be too far of a leap to think of Gullane as being a possible Open venue given it’s location, facilities and quality of course ?

I should also have said that the same report suggested that the ladies Scottish Open would also be going to Gullane next year although on what course it didn’t say.

I don't think Gullane #1 is even nearly in the league of the courses in the Open Rota.

Without arguing if Gullane composite course is in the same league than a Hoylake or not, it is a fantastic venue, tremendous views for TV, plenty of room for spectators and corporate tents, and, with the exception of 1 and 18 on #1, I love the course. Of course 1 is not used and 18 is significantly modified for the Composite course. I would be all in favour of giving it an Open for a special anniversary, for example.

I LOVE Gullane.

Joining Martin there for a late day glorious round with haggis and fish and chips was brilliant stuff and the golf course is one whose virtues were instantly apparerent and unforgettable.

Love, love, love Gullane.
However, like say, Kingsbarns, it's too near to an illustrious neighbour to ever be considered for more than a Scottish or a Ladies Open.
I bet they're both relatively content with that situation.

2032, for the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the club. A one time thing would be nice.

Niall,

the Scottish Open will indeed be at Gullane in 2018 followed a few weeks later by the Ladies.
