King Robert The Bruce Course
« on: June 21, 2017, 01:39:13 PM »

I guess that is the green of the old 'John O  Groats' hole ?

Only 7 days are left until the new 'King Robert The Bruce Course' at Trump Turnberry officially open.

That green is not associated with that fairway - is it?

Is this a total redo of the second course there with the routing materially altered, or just a modest overhaul?

I would not have thought so.

That green was originally for a short driveable par 4, and the tee for the fairway was back and to the right.

I doubt they have changed that.

But I have no idea, as I have found very little info. on this project.

What a ghastly name for a golf course it sounds over trumped

'The Bruce Course' would have sufficed

Shame to see the Kintyre name go as well as Arran for the second course at Turnberry

Brian - they have flipped some of the holes over between holes 8 and 11 and the short par 4 8th has gone

Perhaps just a tad OTT. Despite the dopey name, I have a lot of hope for this course.

I agree about the course. I look forward to playing it, provided they don't price it outwith my price range. As for the opening ceremony.........beyond tacky.

It sort of does beat a photo of an architect pointing to an imaginary bit of inspiration.
But, if instead of the golf course I'm left thinking about 300 men living in a paper bag at the bottom of a lake, that's not so good.

Seems that the fairway is associated with the green.  Following is a picture from Mackenzie & Ebert's Twitter account ( https://twitter.com/golfarchitects?lang=en ).  There a few more pictures of the changed areas of the course.

It is the 9th hole and looks to play about 360ish yards as the crow flies.  Presumably the design intent is to drive up the left side of the fairway ad then carry the second shot across the massive bunker.  I assume that the green site is the old 8th green site.  Looks like maintaining the massive bunker will be interesting.

The 10th is a par 3 that goes inland , with the tee beyond the 9th green and a bit right.  Interestingly the new 8th and 11th are both par 5's and run side by side in the same direction, with the 9th running the opposite direction along the cliffs.  I imagine that the par 5's will play into the prevailing wind.

Oh, and the fee appears to be 120 quid.

Aah, so they have reversed the 9th ?

Interesting, thanks for the correction.

£120 seems far to reasonable by usual standards though still too much. would love to see this course though the name like the appallingly tacky opening ceremony is plain awful.

So re the 9th, I guess one will only be hitting a short club in, but the penalty for missing left looks brutal - well before the sand there's all that underbrush.

I've only been there once and played the Ailsa in the morning. Had such nice weather we opted to pony up and play it again rather than the Arran - which I don't regret. Will RTB be better than Troon's second course?
