I was in Las Vegas a few weeks ago playing golf. I met a guy at one course on the practice tee. He stunk. I mean he really stunk. He saw me hit a few shots and asked a few questions. I discovered he had been playing Top Golf for a few weeks and learned he loved to hit a golf ball and wanted to play on a "real course." So maybe we pick up a few players that way. Then they can get drunk on the course.

Probably very true.
Golf may pick up a few that otherwise wouldn't have been exposed.
Unlike bowling, if you like Top Golf, you can try real golf-in perhaps a very unurban, peaceful, natural setting and all the appeal that comes with that.
There are plenty of courses even in the northeast which can be played no more inexpensively than a conservative outing at Top Golf would cost.

Fantastic!

After watching the final round of the Masters in the lobby bar at the Wynn Las Vegas, I grabbed a taxi to Top Golf to watch the playoff. An amazing place to watch golf I promise you! Wish there was one in Nashvegas.

They just announced that they are opening/building one here in the Twin Cities. They are buying a 15 acre plot of land that is currently home to a 20-plex movie theater.

I've been to a couple of their facilities, one in Chicago and one in Kansas City. I'm always amazed at their popularity. I don't think I would want to visit one once a week, but every once in a while it's not the worst thing to hit a few balls and drink beer. It's certainly more fun than going to one of those industrial park golf simulator setups.

I'll be curious to see how Top Golf does here in Minnesota. I'm sure it will do great in the warm months, but there isn't an overhead space heater in the world big enough to make a -30* wind chill feel warm!

My compliments to Terry and Carl, who come in like the heart of Murderers' Row - Ruth and Gehrig - to knock it out of the park!

I don't think I'll go to Top Golf - but if they start piping in loud rock music or an uptempo disco groove I might...

Race to the bottom? Seriously? Had golf just found its groove before Top Golf and after Lee Elder played in the Masters? What was that - a span of 40 years? The glory days of golf as it was meant to be. Ha!

Shouldn't our life experiences in golf be more about ourselves and not what everyone else is doing?

Eric, it's under construction across the river from Germantown.  You can see the net poles from our office.  I won't say who's financing construction - only that I've become very familiar with the business.

Dinner's on me when you come down after it opens.  Maybe we can pull Pants 'n Snacks out of his shell to join us.

Great for women who want to learn the game but are embarrassed to go to a "real" course or to a driving range.

...crowded, at least in Dallas on a Tuesday night.  I'd never been to one before, but went for a work event earlier this week.  We had to wait a bit to get a spot.  I thought it was fun, but I'm not exactly aching to go back any time soon.  It's something I'd do if a bunch of friends wanted to go, but not something that would be my suggestion.  Probably not good for my game unless I bring my own clubs, which I can't imagine doing (though some people had brought their own clubs).  Slick grips, no glove, and on the second level means I had the club in a virtual death grip for fear of letting one one fly.

My 11yr old daughter attended a birthday party there over the winter with 20 other kids. Now, 6 of those kids (all girls) are way into golf and taking lessons and anxious to try out for the middle school golf team.

Please explain to me where the downside is to that potential "growth of the game? ??? ?"

A little more expensive than it feels like it should be . . .
but it's entertaining enough and maybe brings a few folks to the game.
