2017 Northeast US GCA Knockout
« on: March 04, 2017, 08:40:22 AM »
Based on the popularity of the UK and Midwest versions of these, I was wondering if there was any interest in a Northeast version? Depending on how far people are willing to drive, I was thinking this would include all of New England, New York and New Jersey.  We can use the same month long deadline to get matches played.

Let me know if you're interested and I'm more than happy to coordinate.

One day events are more realistic these days, but I am interested.

If Philly isn't too far south, I'm in. I'm willing to drive a decent ways north. If it is, good luck to all.

Semi-interested, but with two little ones it will probably be tough for me to go very far (I'm in Boston too), so that's not helpful at all!

So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

I'd be interested , I'm down in Baltimore but would drive a few hours, maybe more.

As a former organizer of events, I appreciate your efforts.

NYC - 9 handicap, which I am determined to play to this season. Realistically, 12-14 HCP, but I would rather get knocked out as I can be streaky good. Use 9.0

All, just to bump this one last time.  I've heard from many of you, but we'll set a final deadline of this Sunday, March 12, so please send me your location and latest handicap index and I'll pull together a bracket.

Format-wise, net best ball match play.  It'll be up to the opponents to find an agreeable location and time.  The bracket will be based off of current handicap and location to a degree.

Like the midwest contingent, there will be some sort of entry fee that will go back to the site as a donation.  We'll have to come up with some prize too if anyone has ideas...

Ok, we had a fair bit of interest in this with over 20 people who signed up.  Influenced by the NCAA tournament, I tried my best to bracket it by region and handicap so that no one should have to travel that far unless you either choose to (you can really play wherever you want) or make it to the end.

Granted the weather in the Northeast still sucks, but let's try to get the first matches played by the end of April.

Here is the draw:

Boston Regional 1 (winner plays Boston Regional 2 winner)

Mark Steffey vs. Ryan Carey
Winner plays Brad Tufts

Craig Smith vs. David Grady

Boston Regional 2

Evan Purmort vs. John Bovay
Winner plays Cob Carlson

Chris DeToro vs. Jaeger Kovich

New York Regional (winner plays Mid-Atlantic bracket winner)
Jon Byron vs. Mike Sweeney
Winner plays Pat Scanlan

Tom Hooker vs. Keith Grande

Mid-Atlantic Region
Mike Malone vs. Chris Mavros
Winner plays Jon Cavalier

Bill Crane vs. Nate Oxman
Winner plays Eric Hammerbacher
