I hope that "The Grove" is a working name only. Use your bald dome and come up with something more evocative, more of a tribute.

Maybe it is a pun off of, "The Glove". MJ's NBA nickname when he played defense.

I thought Gary Payton was The Glove?

This is not the name Michael had in mind two years ago, but maybe he has to go with what the developer wants.

The Grove already exists near London. It is a Kyle Philips course.

Maybe you are RIGHT. I thought I read something about him being called the GLOVE when the Bulls  drafted Toni Kuckoc and Team USA played against him in the Olympics. It seems that the Bulls' players didnt like the draft pick.

Plenty of courses have the same name.

I never heard that attributed to Michael.  Even though his defense was top notch, that's clearly not what he was known for...

Gary Payton was definitely  The Glove.

MJ was always MJ and His Airness.

Now he is the GOAT.  Maybe the GOAT Ranch?

Actually, the name I heard for the course is a different nickname for Michael, which some of his friends use.

I'm not sure it's in the public domain, though, and I'm not about to be the one to put it out there!

It will be interesting to see who is hired to design the course - any knowledge of who it might be?

It sure looks like a small piece of land, as compared to some of the other golf courses in the area. And w 225 acres, there should be enough grass area, I am interested in what the final product looks like.

225 is plenty for a golf course that will have the low volume they will have and the land isn't eaten up by marshes or preserves. Id guess that total grasses areas will be like Medalist where much of the acreage will be the sandy scrub areas. Ive have also heard the possibility to zoysia grass being used.

There appears to be a slightly sandy complexion to the site. Is that a small extension of the ridge?

Yep, Michael was only defensive player of the year in 87-88, 9 time first time All Defensive Team...

Michael was indeed called The Glove by some. It was during the original Dream Team tryouts and prep stuff. Bobby Hurley was playing very well for the B team, and someone said, better put The Glove on him. They weren't talking about Gary Payton.

Can't contribute anything worthwhile to the substantive discussion on this thread, but I can contribute to worthless minutiae with the best of them... :)

Hmmm...will be interesting to see what he can pull off.  I've played two courses by Weed.  One surprisingly fun, one was possibly the worst course I've ever played.  The site on the second was admittedly terrible.

I've also heard great things about some of his other courses and the re-design at Culver.  A true mixed bag.

I was playing in a member guest in Nashville several years ago and one of the guys we played against was a lineman for the Titans. We got to talking about "The Freak" Jevon Kearse and he mentioned that his nickname in the locker room was "The Pretzel".

Unfortunately, not.  After all the gossip about the project here two years ago, the landowner demanded different terms, and the developer who'd been trying to put the deal together with me bowed out.  The new developer is the same one who just re-did The Medalist Club, with Bobby Weed, so he got the nod.

My best guess: G.O.A.T.

Maybe "Goat's Club"...?

"Greatest of all Time" is a JOrdan nickname.
MJ, Captain Marvel, His Airness....

GOats Club....hmmm....?...play on words for "Bear's Club" where he has also played.

Do you really think Michael Jordan would use a goat as the logo for his golf club?

As I said, I don't think the nickname is in the public domain, and it's not been guessed here.  With that, I've retired from the thread.  I look forward to seeing the golf course.  Michael had a lot of thoughts about its design, all of which are related to playing matches ... and if they take his input, I think the course is going to be really different and interesting.

I'll be down in Hobe Sound in 2 weeks. Will be curious to Learn more.

But, it's a great future venue for those who want to play in 6-Somes with each player in their own cart smoking cigars and playing 18 holes in under 2:30 w/o worrying what anyone thinks.

Isn't there a name for courses like this....?... ;D
