When you take your stance and wiggle your feet to get below the surface of the sand (as advised by every instructional guide in the history of golf), you cannot help but get a feel for the sand.

Two aspects to this. First, intent is important. You mentioned your intent was to test. That is a penalty. Of course, if you are just taking a stance, and in doing that you get a feel, that is fine. This might make you a bit more careful as to what you do when taking a stance or what you say to a competitor.


Second, there is a fine line between taking a stance and building a stance. The article linked below is interesting. You are fine with what you said, wiggling your feet to take a firm stance. But if you wiggle excessively you are not.
