2016 Photos of the Year Contest
« on: December 12, 2016, 11:52:22 AM »
Going to be traveling for the bulk of the month, so was hoping someone might volunteer to run this year's version of the Photos of the Year Contest.

Here's a link to last year's thread:  http://www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,62278.0.html.

Happy Holidays Everyone.

No takers?  In that case, I'll try to find the time.

Same rules as last year.

1.  Two submissions per contestant, one for each of the categories noted in item 4 below (for posts with more, unless you designate your entries we're going to take the first two photos).  Please don't use this thread to unload your Photobucket Library;

2.  Photos have to have been taken in 2016 (with the caveat that any photos from 2015 that were taken after last year's contest ended are admissible);

3.  Submission period will run until December 26th (photo must be posted, not linked);

4.  Following the submission period, the Committee will choose five photos as the finalists (to be posted on the 27th), in each of two divisions, (A) one for golf course related photos, and (B) one for the people and traditions of the game;

5.  Voting on the finalists will be open to all with one vote per participant (votes can be submitted by PM or by post on this thread any time between the 27th and the 31st);

6.  The winners will be announced on January 1st; and

7.  You're allowed to nominate a picture taken by someone else, and that picture is eligible for the contest and does not count as the photographer's submission.  It does count as one of your submissions.  Any prize would go to the actual photo taker, not the submitter.

As always, these rules are subject to change at any time due to the whim of the Chairman.

I'll bite.

Golf course-related photo submission:

Manufacturers' Golf and Country Club, No. 8, 117 yards
In this photo, the wonderful quarry par-3 at "Mannies" is seen in the chilly late afternoon of September 27, 2016, in a steady rainfall.

People and traditions of the game photo submission:

A PGA Professional at the site of his Association's founding
As PGA member of five years, I took this photo next to the commemorative plaque on the exterior of the Hotel Martinique in Manhattan, a plaque that marks the site of the founding of the PGA of America in 1916. This picture was taken shortly after the conclusion of the 100th PGA Annual Meeting, held just a few blocks away, on November 11, 2016, during the PGA of America's centennial year..

Is Brian Walters a GCA guy? If not, I don't think that you can submit his photo for the contest.

Two for the course category. One of my best friends is headed for fatherhood and its attendant golf deprivation, so I convinced him to make a last-minute run from Ontario to Nova Scotia to see Cabot Cliffs in mid-October. He loved links golf and the weather was brisk and glorious. Pictured are the 2nd hole (about 300 yards from this tee) and 10th hole (about 490).

Sven, thanks for doing this - it is one of my favorite annual threads and if I had any competency with photo posting I might have 'leaned in!'

I'm not much of a photographer, but snapped a few good ones in Scotland this Summer.  I don't suppose any will win a contest, so I will just share 3 of my favorites.

Chris you should point out;
1 you almost cut your finger off that morning
2 the tent went rolling down the fairway in pursuit of a player, who is also on the EC. Justice???
We have a pool and a pond, the pond would be good for you.

Never good to follow Jon Cavalier's photos, but here are mine:

PEOPLE

Three of the best caddies at St. Andrews, thank you Ben H.  (official entry)

Old Tom (Eric S) on the 9th on the New Course on a perfect night.

GOLF COURSE

I have the same photo that Brian Finn provided with the rainbow so that is my vote!  My official entry comes from N. Berwick, where I was fortunate enough to play here with a great group.  The photo brings back one of the best golf days I have ever had which included playing Glen Club in the morning, N. Berwick in the afternoon, Kilspindie in the evening and arriving at the Dunvegan barely before midnight (due to driving on my own and getting lost) to have a few drinks with a bunch of golf nuts.

(official entry) Perfection

A few others from that amazing trip to Scotland:
