The king of all Ugly Golf Courses has to be Santa Anita for me. If you're a SoCal resident or have hit all the big names down here, GO SEE IT. There's nothing quite like it.

I don't know that it's that more ugly than any other SoCal parkland style public course.  Maybe the surrounds, I guess, but it's no worse than Whittier Narrows, Hansen Dam, or Azusa Greens.  I suppose what sets it apart is that it's actually a pretty decent golf course.  I may be a bit biased, though, as I was born across the street, and played it probably three times a week during the high school golf season.

Well that's my point... those other courses aren't very good and while Santa Anita appears more of the same the underlying architecture is a) more interesting and b) unique to Santa Anita in southern california.

Also most SoCal parkland courses are ugly IMO...

Have not read the replies so it could be that this has been named but Carnoustie has to fit the bill here.

The other one that fits it for me would be Skegness's golf club Seacroft.

Brookside isn't too bad. Nice setting down in the Arroyo. And it's surrounded by streets, but they have a lot more runners and cyclists than cars. It's about as picturesque as you're gonna get in that area.
