Your best 6 or 7 days of golf?
« on: June 25, 2016, 12:47:58 PM »
Myopia Hunt Club....the quintessential turn of the century golf and country club, time has almost stood still
Boston Golf Club...wow! Fescue, firm, fast...wild undulations and character...love it
Cabot Cliffs...will likely be #2 modern Golfweek possibly #1....fantastic setting, awesome golf holes, just getting settled
Cabot Links...a fantastic course next to the Cliffs...what a compliment with emergency 3, 6, or 9 hole rounds possible
Highland Links...a great coastal resort course to enjoy, well thought and designed holes, difficult setting with no dozers
Garden City Men's...a wonderful walk, 4 birdies, 3 bogeys, fantastic restorative work/modifications by Doak and club

you??

Generally around USGA events, because they usually start with two great courses and I can throw in a couple of others along the way: a couple of years ago Saucon Valley Old and Weyhill, Plainfield, and Lehigh. More recently Winged Foot East and West, Fenway, Friar's Head, and Yale. That was quite a week.

In terms of belt notching probably one of our trips to Scotland, Ireland or Bandon, but in terms of fun it was easily a week at Kingsley in late March with my then 14 year-old son.  Mild weather allowed for an earlier opening than usual and we essentially had the course to ourselves all week.  Also got up to Belvedere which was a pleasant surprise.

yes I think 2 ways to look at it

just golf in Hawaii at unsuspecting courses over a week is not bad as opposed to one time plays of known/well-respected courses

also golfing around an event such as the Masters where you have the "best golf event every year", then can play Aiken, Sage, Palmetto, ACC etc... is the other way to play golf for 6-7 days

it's all good

Many bucket list trips, but the most memorable was taking my (now late) father, my father-in-law, and my then 15-year old son to Scotland for a week at Loch Lomond, Royal Troon, Prestwick, Turnberry, Kingsbarns, Crail, a walk of the Old Course (couldn't get on) - good golf, outstanding company!

I've made many great golf trips but my best day was with my Dad when he was 85. We played Kingsley in the afternoon and Crystal Downs the next morning. Not one day but one 24 hour period.

Six days of golf in a row? I could just dream. I am happy with back to back 36 hole days.

So where I would I go for six days of golf in a row? Probably Scotland or Long Island.

so many memories..Pebble Beach, Bandon, Ireland, Scotland, Augusta, Pine Valley, The Hamptons, Wisc, Australia, Ohio, Casa de Campo, puerto Rico, Doral, Acapulco, Stranz, Latrobe, Idaho, Pelican Hill, Calgary,
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Scotland.  Picked up some friends in Edinburgh to rented house in SA.  New, Old, Crail, Elie, then around to North Berwick 2X.  I showed up a bit more than a week earlier and didn't do so bad on my own:  Cruden, Aberdeen, Dornoch, Brora, Gairloch, Machrihanish.  Sort of a road warrior schedule, broken up by stops for a look at nearly every course in between.  Doing all the driving myself, so had to skip the distilleries.  Damn.  Made up for that a bit at the Dunvegan.

Mine was in Ireland.

The courses didn't matter, the scores didn't matter, how I played didn't matter ...
I was playing with my father ... who ten years before told me he thought he would not be able to play anymore.

Scotland, south of Glasgow with 11 buddies.
Dundonald off the plane, then 36 at Prestwick, 36 at Royal Troon, 18 at Turnberry (four guys went back to Dundonald because they liked it so much) and 18 at Western Gailes.
Very little driving, lots of golf and discovered Jura!

Day 7 was a visit to Dartmoor followed by
Day 8 18 at Newquay
Day 9 18 at West Cornwall
Day 10 36 Saunton East and West
Day 11 18 at Bude and North Cornwall
Day 12 18 at Minehead

So you see Saunton didn't qualify as a 6 or 7 day grouping. Besides, I preferred the two courses played before and the two courses played after. ;)
